Added Colorless Package —Sept. 10, 2017

Thought-Knot Seer is an interesting card in this deck, as it plays quite a few niche roles that fill in the gaps of the rest of the deck. At face value, the eldrazi provides some hand disruption and minor political sway with the targeted card draw on it leaving the battlefield. However, Thought-Knot can also be the finishing blow when trying to go infinite. The leaves play trigger can be used in a classic saffi-reveillark-karmic guide loop to force each opponent to draw their deck. It even adds another 4 drop to the deck, which helps ensure the birthing pod chain doesn't get cut off. It is replacing Angel of Serenity, a pretty redundant and awkward 7 drop. It used to be sweet for value, but this deck is now aimed for resilience over pure value.

To enable this colorless mana requirement, I've swapped the checklands for painlands. To be honest, these should have been in from the start. The life loss is negligible in EDH and they come into play untapped turn 1.

I experimented with Mirrorpool as well, but that card is not good. Being restricted to copy your own creatures hampers this card's ability to make up for the fact that it's a colorless land coming into play tapped. Instead I settled on Riftstone Portal. It provides fixing from the graveyard which is unique and powerful, and in a pinch it can be used as an actual land. This replaced Thespian's Stage, a card I've consistently been unexcited to play. I think it's overrated.

Summary of Changes made:

  • Sunpetal Grove > Brushland
  • Isolated Chapel > Caves of Kolios
  • Woodland Cemetery > Llanowar Wastes
  • Thespian's Stage > Riftstone Portal
  • Angel of Serenity > Thought-Knot Seer

I also now swap between Mesmeric Orb and Altar of Dementia, depending on how competitive the environment is.

Nice start for a budget build. I don't really understand some of the card choices though. Darkblast doesn't seem that strong, and there are faster ways to fill your yard than with dredge. In my build it's not that rare for me to dump 25-30 cards in with one Hermit Druid activation. Also, consider running Eladamri's Call as a replacement or in addition to Worldly Tutor. I see some others as well, but I don't want to seem like a dick so if you want, feel free to check out my build. I love that you're running Mirari's Wake. That was one of my favorite cards in standard about a decade ago.

I agree with darkblast, and worldy tutor is just a placeholder for when i can get a survival. I also plan on replacing gideon, profane command, and exsanguinate when i get the chance. Any other specifics i should be aware of?

Mikaeus, the Unhallowed is an absolute must with karador

Also think about changing some of your removal spells for ETB crature with removal, Nekrataal , Shriekmaw , Sunblast Angel . The more creature, the more you'll enjoy that commander

Shriekmaw used to be in the list but i cut it because it never seemed to have enough targets. I am planning on putting in duplicant and angel of serenity to give more effects like that. The removal not on creatures is cheap and versatile and can be regrowthed through eternal witness.

I do like mikaeus though. What do you think i should replace?

mikaeus is super cool with the shriekmaw, you can cast shriekmaw for 1b, kill 2 creatures and get a +1/+1 shriekmaw... all for the evoke cost!! i would add Hermit Druid too for faster dredge. card:Yawgmoth's Will could be a nice addition too

as for what to take out, even if those planeswalker are awsome, you can't bring them back with karador... cultivate is a bit slow in EDH and since you have a fertilid...

Hermit Druid does seem pretty bananas. How about Garruk -> Druid? Also, I really like cultivate in the opening hand cause it guarantees two land drops and a ramp the turn you play it, and late game I can just toss it to yard and it wont have to matter.

Hermit Druid is insane. I usually mill 20-30 cards with just one activation, but I also run plenty of ramp to thin out my basics early on.

I'd never thought about Mikaeus the Unhallowed, but that's a damn good call. Thanks for the idea, Bobgalarneau

The mikaeus idea actualy came from guys talking on the gatherer forum. I tried it and he totaly made the game in a free-for-all 4 player. This and Immortal Servitude cleared the field with all those ETB effects i am running.

Look at my deck for some idea karador, power reanimator in your face

Hey im planning on playing karador soon and one card that came to mind was Meren. i was wondering if there was any reason that you did not include her in the deck?

superpringles, I haven't gotten a Meren yet but when I do, it is taking Smothering Abomination's place.

Its for decks as strong as this that my buddies and I devised this:

If you're looking for cheap ramp creatures, I play Yavimaya Granger, Viridian Emissary, and Dawntreader Elk in my Karador deck. It helps me consistently start with a ramp creature that I can replay early. Also, SUPER glad to see Spore Frog in this list, it's been one of my favorite cards to play ever since I put it in. Phyrexian Delver usually does great work being a second Karmic Guide. Just some suggestions for ya, it's always a pleasure seeing another competitive Karador deck out there!

If your not opposed to infinite loops then consider,

Sun Titan, Necromancy/Fiend Hunter saffi/Animate Dead and a sac outlet

Karmic Guide, Reveillark/saffi/Fiend Hunter and a sac

Nims death mantle, Karmic Guide/undying or persist and Ashnod's Altar

For sac outlets use Blasting Station,Ashnod's Altar or the sac to mill artifact.

Lots of other great cards if you go this route.

Just wondering-why Restoration Angel? Maybe I'm missing something, or it's really meta dependant, but I don't understand why she's in here, because you can't cast her during opponents turns from the yard.
