Kami's Owling Good Time

Commander / EDH Mono-Blue

Petronio39

When Owling Mine, and Fevered Owl were in the modern scene, I loved the way they played. Filling up an opponent's hand, then punishing them with effects that made it hard to play their cards, all while accruing value for yourself, just seemed like a good time. Because of that, I wanted to give my own little take for commander, using Kami of the Crescent Moon.

One question I get a lot is, why not Nekusar? For starters, Nekusar tends to get a lot of hate due to him being seen as a competitive commander. Second, Nekusar decks tend to emphasize wheels, which aren't a huge part of this deck.

So, what does a win state look like for this deck? Generally, plan A is to fill opponents hands and have something like iron maiden on the field to cause lots of damage. This can be especially effective after using a board bounce like cyclonic rift.

Plan B would be assembling rings of brighthearth and basalt monolith, and decking someone with blue sun's zenith. Alternatively, we can make everyone draw a ton with prosparity, and play down our iron maiden with the infinite mana.

Plan C would be combining Teferi's puzzle-box with something like psychosis crawler, or sphinx's tutelage for some good damage/mill.

Plan D is to lock opponents out of the game by assembling loads of cards in hand, and mana available, then using arcane laboratory and forbid to prevent opponents from casting spells.

That's not all there is though, and sometimes you can just improv your way into a win state. I've definitely put some crazy things together, like sundering into a windfall with viseling on the field to finish off my opponents.

In addition to winning, the deck also provides a number of ways to stop you from loosing, such as crush of tentacles, evacuation, ixidron, etc.

Some cards I'm considering are Palenchron, and Storm Cauldron
