So, I have a Kami of the Crescent Moon deck which is all about combat tricks, painless group draw, and outlasting the opponents. I created The Second Wave as a counterpart to that deck. When I made my original Kami deck I wrote a little story to go with it. This build also has a story to go along with it, and the events in it take place just after what happened in the first one. Part of the idea of this deck is that through the events that took place in the first deck, an unstoppable evil has been drawn to the scene. That being said, there are certain card choices that I made with the intent of embodying that idea. Read the story below and continue on to the card choice explanations.

You stand at the edge of the ocean. A crescent moon glows brightly in the clear night sky. Gentle waves sparkle under the moonlight. The ocean beckons you, as far away dulcet sirens sing a song that you can't quite hear. You feel compelled to enter the surf, but there is a pit in your stomach. You look away, and see something nearly buried in the wet sand just a few steps away from you. Curious, you walk over and dig your fingers into the sand and pick up the object, then step into the ocean to rinse it off. Before you can dip your discovery into the water you see a sigiled starfish right beside your foot emitting a strange pink glow. Startled, you step back quickly in fear, dropping the object into the ocean. In the clear water, under the bright moonlight you suddenly see what you found. It's the famous lost Sapphire Medallion , and with slight trepidation, you reach into the cold water for it. As you bring it out of the water, the sapphire begins to emit a soft blue light and that pit in your stomach returns. A cold breeze turns into a howling wind as a fog bank rolls in, and you can't dismiss this feeling that you should turn and run. You try and move, but your feet have sunken into the sand, and you cannot pull them out. The more you struggle, the further you sink. The tide begins to rise, and that pit in your stomach turns to fear in your heart. Suddenly a primordial being rises from the ocean, and looking right at you, reaches out a hand in your direction. The medallion in your hand begins to shake and flies out of your hand and into the grasp of this mysterious water being. medallion in hand, the being begins to spin faster and faster until it turns into a column of water and sucks the medallion into the depths. The fog begins to clear and you see a leviathan breach the water. It doesn't so much jump out of the water as it flies across a great distance before crashing violently back into the ocean. The beast crashes into the water so hard, that a great wave forms, heading your way. The wave grows to massive proportions as it heads your way. You struggle to free yourself from the sand, but its of no use. You take the deepest breath you've ever taken in your life as the torrent of water crashes over you, ripping you free from the earth. You tumble end over end, under meters of crashing waves, unable to tell which way is up. There is a brief calm in the roil followed by a sudden pull back into the ocean. As the great wave recedes, it pulls you far out into the ocean. At the surface, treading water, you look about frantically. In the distance you see the faint glimmer of a tall tower. Suddenly, the water begins to rise beneath you and you find yourself on the top of a mountain of water. You dunk your head into the water, and see a monster of the deep coming towards you, it's mouth wide open. You begin to try and swim, but the monster has you in it's mouth, still rising at great speed as it breaks the barrier of sea and wind. It rises higher and higher into the air and then seemingly stops in the heavens for a moment. Time appears to stop for a moment when, from inside the maw of the great monster, you once again hear the distant song of the sirens. However, this time, you can hear their song cleary. Soft, haunting voices sing, "Safety to the west, danger to the east, on land you'll find safety, in the sea hungry beasts". As the siren song ends the giant maw of the beast closes and it dives deep into the depths, bringing you down with it, sealing your fate.
As the massive sea beast descends into the darkest depths, you slosh around helplessly in it's gullet. It hasn't quite swallowed you, and yet still you remain trapped in your fleshy tomb. Desperately, with your final breath, you look around for an escape. You swim towards the maw of this great monster, and through it's jagged teeth you see a massive flash of soft blue light you instantly recognize. You've seen this color before in the glowing medallion you found on the beach, but you can't fathom a thought as to why you're seeing it now. Just then, the creature swiftly reverses direction racing towards the surface. You begin to feel a glimmer of hope when the great monster breeches the surface, letting in a torrent of fresh air you frantically gasp for. No sooner than you take that life saving breath, the beast suddenly begins to thrash violently from side to side. From inside the mouth of the beast you see immense teeth piercing it's thick flesh. Blood begins to pour in from it's wounds, and you begin to hear the sound of flesh tearing and the thunderous crack of massive bones breaking. A deluge of blood, water, and ocean mist envelope you, blinding you to the image of the monster devouring your captor. Before the mist settles, the titanic creature dives beneath the waves, leaving you floating in the middle of the ocean upon the bloody remains of a leviathan. Amazed you be alive, you sigh deeply in relief. Then you realize you're sitting atop a small feast for hungry creatures of the deep who are sure to be attracted to the bloodbath that just ensued. You look around to see if there is any hope of escape, but all you see is endless waves against a black night sky. Frantic you begin screaming for help in the hope that someone, anyone, will here you. Out of breath you slump down on the mass of flesh you're floating on and look up the sky. Staring into the endless dark of night, you hear a strange sound right beside you. Quickly you turn your head and to your surprise there is an owl perched on the remains of the beast. It's feathers are as dark as the night sky and glimmer under the light of the crescent moon. You watch the owl hop around and see it gaze out into the distance. You can't help but feel some kinship with this bird, and you even feel sorry for it, wondering if it's as lost as you are. Then the owl pecks at the flesh it stands on, and then turns it's gaze to you. It's head bobs around as if to get a good look at you, and then seems to stare directly into your eyes, into your soul even. It's eyes begin to emit a blue light. This color, you know you've seen it in the medallion, and again in the ocean. It emanates like energy from the eyes of the owl with a hypnotizing and calm intensity when it abruptly changes from blue to a blinding white. You find yourself squinting, then clenching your eyes shut as the light gets brighter and brighter. Your head begins to feel hot and you break into a sweat and just as soon as it started, the bright light goes out, and you hear the owl flutter away. You open your eyes and at first everything seems blurry. You rub your eyes and as your vision clears you see a horrifying sight. A massive, monstrous creature rises like a mountain out of the ocean. It has a large disc shaped head and enormous tentacles which seem to move on their own. You feel it sense your presence and your body begins to tingle. Losing all control of your body, you begin to rise into the air and towards this, this thing. You feel a sense of terror, but are unable to utter a word and you feel a sense of aloneness that feels like your soul is being ripped from your body. As you get closer to the creature another monstrocity reveals itself from behind the mountainous behemoth. It comes swiftly for you, and grabs hold of you. You feel a strange sensation as everything fades to black and the being seemingly removes you from existence, sealing your fate.

The original Kami deck has a great balance of useful counterspells and combat tricks as well as a fair amount of group return to hand effects. This build is meant to embody an unstoppable onslaught, it doesn't have as much of the traditional control spells. I can't help but have a few since this is blue after all, but this deck is not meant to be too thinky. Counterspells are few and far between, and fewer can counter any spell.. Here's the choices.

Negate, Swan Song, and Stubborn Denial are there to counter wrath to keep the Eldrazi onslaught continuing.

Last Word and Overwhelming Denial are the only counters which can be used for anything, but in the interest of unstoppability they are uncounterable so you don't have to worry about them not resolving unless you run into a Time Stop.

Another thing this deck doesn't want to have to do is recast huge mana rocks and eldrazi, so the tricks that are included are AEtherize, AEtherspouts, Cyclonic Rift, and Engulf the Shore . Be careful with Engulf the Shore , as you want to keep your biggest baddies on the field.

Mystical Tutor is there to help you if you need to find one of the few control cards in the deck.
Since this deck doesn't want to do as much trickery, it opts instead to make it difficult to swing at. These spells help with that.

Propaganda: Simple and effective

Dissipation Field: Unless your opponent wants to use up their mana just keeping up their board state, they will probably swing someone else's way.

Crawlspace: Holds back large armies handily.
The original Kami deck has a steep curve, and 32 land. To balance out the mana needs in the early game it runs a ton of 2 mana rocks. This deck's curve is even steeper, but it's running 38 land, so there's not as much of an issue with early land drops not coming naturally. This gives rise to bigger rocks.

Extraplanar Lens: I will be taking part in the time honored tradition of using extraplanar lense alongside snow islands for double blue.

Caged Sun is another one sided mana doubler.

Dreamstone Hedron: This massive rock is great for eldrazi flavor and being useful later in the game.

Hedron Archive is another nice recyclable rock.

Sol Ring: Nuff said.

Thought Vessel is a lil' rock with a big upside.

Thran Dynamo and Worn Powerstone are just too good to pass up.
I am a card draw addict. I don't care who else is getting cards too, just so long as I get more. Here's the draw, and a little bit about each choice.

Howling Mine: Easy to throw out of your hand at any time in the game due it's low CMC.

Font of Mythos: Two wrongs don't make a right, but two mines makes a font. Awkwardly costed at 4 mana, but the pay off is immense.

Flash Mine: Pay 3 for a simpler Howling Mine that you get the first draw off of? YES PLEASE!

Well of Ideas : Although expensive to cast, it feels good to draw the two cards upon entry. It lessens the hurt of it getting destroyed before you get to draw TWO extra cards per turn. If it sticks around though, enjoy the ride!

(Note: I don't run Anvil of Bogardan in this deck because it has a friendly element in it where it basically gives everyone a Reliquary Tower effect. I do not want to give people that ability in this version of the deck.)
One of the main differences of this deck to Kami of The Rising Tides is that it has no problem making people pay for their card draw. There aren't 5 barrels of cards to choose from in Mono-Blue to deal pain on draw, but I've got the ones I know about in here. If you know of one I haven't listed, definitely suggest it.

Psychosis Crawler: Everyone takes damage off of you drawing. Nice effect on what will likely be a big body. Can't go wrong.

Ebony Owl Netsuke: This is the owl from the story. Play it early and draw artifact hate to help keep your mana stones safe, play it mid game on a full board to deal damage without needing combat. Peep that flavor text to see how it earned a place in the story.

Iron Maiden : This savage sounding artifact will have everyone's ears perked so don't think this is going to go unnoticed. It's effect in this build though makes it worthy of the moniker.

Viseling: Just spew this out whenever for some cheap damage points. He couldn't be more fragile, so don't put much thought into when you want to cast it.
After you've got some rocks on the field, and some extra draw you want to start landing Monsters and swinging with them relentlessly. Here's the core of the monsters, and some ways to send them in unchallenged.

Emrakul, the Promised End: This is the beast our hero sees rising from the ocean just after being blinded by the owl. A massive 13/13 flying, trample with protection from instants is bonkers. Oh and you get to take someone else's turn before they do.

It That Betrays: A stout 11/11 is no joke, and steals the goodies people sac to the various annihilator abilities in the deck as well as through other in game sac effects.

Kozilek, Butcher of Truth: This is the one Eldrazi I've always wanted ever since I saw it. It's the main reason this deck went with an Eldrazi theme for it's creature base. Draw 4 with annihilator 4 is just too mean. This Eldrazi best embodies the spirit of the deck.

Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger made it into the deck because he's indestructible and has pseudo annihilator. It doesn't hurt that he's giving blue a way to exile a couple permanents.

Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre: Brutality plain and simple.

Artisan of Kozilek, Void Winnower, Bane of Bala Ged, and Oblivion Sower are sort of the glue that helps hold this thing together. They are decent for their various utilities.

Here are few trinkets to find in the depths to send your creatures in stalker style.

Trailblazer's Boots: I have yet to play a game of EDH where this doesn't just give unblockable to a creature for every player. The cheap CMC and Equip make it easy to use.

Whispersilk Cloak: This is the icing on the unblockable cake.

Over time, I'd like to get a couple more pieces of equipment like this, but for now 2 will do.

(Note: Thassa, God of the Sea would be a great include for this build, but as the goddess of the sea, she belongs in the original Kami deck only, as those creatures are largely sea beasts so it feels awkward flavor wise to have her give Eldrazi unblockable.)
Eldrazi Don't Have Weaknesses. Move Along.

If you like the deck or the story, or put it in a folder, be a pal and give it a +1 to show some love.
