IN TIMES WHEN FREEDOM SEEMS LOST, GREAT SOULS ARISE TO RECLAIM IT.

To me, Kamahl is the iconic MTG character, and a very cool/underrated card. Nothing insane, but something that represents what Red is all about-- taking your opponents head on with nothing but the shirt on your back! Such anger! Such flavor! Oh the revelry! Kamahl is as reckless and hasty as they come. Long live Red!

This deck is my current passion project and I've been messing around with a bunch of different ideas since Kamahl doesn't give off much synergy to anything. He's a lonesome dude who wants to strangle his opponents in the pit. I originally figured some land destruction may do this deck some good once Kamahl is out with a few pieces of equipment or untap utility, but lately I've skewed away from the land destruction for more JANK combos. Oddly enough, even with his lack of synergy, Kamahl is asking to be the focal point of the deck.

Throwing a Dictate of the Twin Gods or Furnace of Rath with maybe Illusionist's Bracers teamed up with Umbral Mantle equipped? Damage, damage, damage. Maybe swing first while Bladed Bracers, Accorder's Shield, or Cathar's Shield attached for that vigilance and then trigger Kamahl's ability afterward or instant-speed when blockers are declared.

I don’t know why people say a double-edged sword is bad. It’s a sword with two edges.” -Kamahl, Pit Fighter

Thanks to an awesome person below RedDeckTries, I have recently discovered THE Kamahl combo... So I added in Scythe of the Wretched + Warstorm Surge/Impact Tremors/Altar of the Brood. Have the Scythe equipped to Kamahl and bolt himself for infinite damage dealt to your opponents! The poor bastard... but SO COOL.
How about infinite mana? Just make sure your opponents have most (if not all) their lands tapped and cast Mana Geyser + Reiterate. BOOM.
I have put in a Smoke since this deck only wants Kamahl to untap (and since it lacks creatures) opponents will get frustrated. Also, good ole Blood Moon for some additional flavor and redness. And the best for last, take the fight to the Burning Sands where Kamahl feels most comfortable. I've been working on adding more copy spells in order to respond to pesky blue players or any sort of combat tricks opponents may try to pull--so since Red can't counter why not try and join in the fun if possible? Increasing Vengeance, Reverberate, Reiterate, Shunt, and the OG Fork to perhaps respond to what opponents play (copy a counter and then counter their counter?) or maybe just go all out and copy those land destruction spells to be extra mean and extra red!

Most red players are already familiar with Goblin Welder and if they aren’t they very well should get acquainted right away. Goblin Welder is a feeble 1/1 (that ironically could take Kamahl 1v1 on sheer power, although Kamahl would just fire up an axe and throw it at him) but this little guy is underestimated by most people I play with and that tells me this is an underplayed card. Because red can wheel and deal Wheel of Fortune, Reforge the Soul, Faithless Looting and because red just wants to cast all the spells you can as fast as possible, lots of crap ends up in the graveyard. In the case of this deck, more often than not plenty of artifacts end up there. So needless to say when your board state is looking weak check the graveyard when the Welder is out and he can provide Kamahl with a lost weapon or destroyed untap outlet that your opponents worked so hard to destroy. And remember, this is also done at instant speed so if an artifact of yours is targeted and you have something in the graveyard, activate the Welder’s ability to sac the artifact being targeted to bring another artifact goody out. Nothing feels better than when an opponent goes to destroy your Fireshrieker and you replace it with a Caged Sun!

The downside seems that a lot of pieces are required to make any headway so I'm hoping cards like Mana Flare, Azor's Gateway  , Seething Song, Saheeli's Directive and Geosurge (along with Treasure Nabber) can add extra support to the mana base and/or put things out fast. Let the jankness begin!
As a huge upgrade to the mana base, I have recently added in Extraplanar Lens and Snow-Covered Mountain to give myself exclusive mana boosting. It is only fitting that a barbarian comes from the snow-covered mountains as well. Pretty convenient flavor upgrade!

I DIDN'T COME TO PLAY. I CAME TO WIN.
