Some Omninous Shadows Over Here... —March 26, 2016

Welcome to Kalemne's Shadows Over Innistrad Review! This update will serve as a guide to what cards can go right into the deck and potentially perform well. Here goes...

White:

Archangel Avacyn  Flip/Avacyn, the Purifier  Flip: Avacyn's new form comes down a turn after casting Kalemne, so she can grant an experience counter and shield her from a boardwipe. Always nice. As for flipping her, it's easier the fewer angels you have. Once you do though, Avacyn's rampage will burn those tokens to a crisp and eat them for breakfast. If by chance you're running Repercussion, that will get nasty indeed (Just watch you don't hit yourself). The beauty of the mini-boardwipe is that Kalemne will survive because she will be at least a 4/4 when Avacyn flips.

Declaration in Stone: Not as big of a boost, but it also deals with tokens. Not bad, but it can still hose them. I'd say this is more of a meta call.

Odric, Lunarch Marshal: It's a shame that he costs 4, because granting Double Strike and Vigilance to your creatures is quite busted. He's still a force to be reckoned with, though.

Open the Armory: A new equipment tutor is not bad. Good if you're headed the Voltron route.

Red:

Flameblade Angel: I'm not a fan of the card, personally, but I know one of you (You know who you are, I'm talking to you) will try to run this against a token deck. Again, a meta call, but I'm not a fan.

Other:

Nahiri, the Harbinger: While scorned when she was spoiled, Nahiri brings a looting effect to the table. There's better ways to draw cards in W/R that doesn't paint a target up your back end. The Ultimate is awesome, but the minus ability is semi-lackluster. Run at your own risk.

Haunted Cloak: Vigilance, Trample, AND Haste in one card? CMC 3? 1 to Equip? Sign me up! The Vigilance will be redundant, but the other two keywords are something Kalemne really needs to power out some serious damage.

So, if I went ahead and modified the deck, here's what I would run from the new set:

Archangel Avacyn  Flip/Avacyn, the Purifier  Flip

Odric, Lunarch Marshal (Possibly; not guaranteed)

Open the Armory (If I really needed another tutor)

Haunted Cloak

(Man, writing up this review is making me want to take up the deck again...)
