Kaalia the Demon Apostle

Basic Idea

This deck works around the Shadowborn Apostle ability to tutor demons straight onto the field. With some help from Kaalia of the Vast you can potentially flood the battlefield with strong monsters that need to be dealt with.

As a side note, this is a deck that I want to use against my friends. It's not supposed to be all that competitive.

Kaalia of the Vast : This card dose a few things in the deck, but in all honesty its quite self explanatory. As a , and Commander she gives me access to a wide variate of cards and effects. being the least effective color in Commander magic + which is the most effective color in commander magic and a dash of for some extra spice. Her main mechanic is off course to cheat out high CMC cards, or even just high value cards into the fields tapped and attacking, aka with Haste. This allows her put down a few rather good cards like Gisela, Blade of Goldnight and Lord of the Void . She even has a "unique" interaction with Master of Cruelties allowing her to do and amazing 1-hit KO turn vs one player.

Shadowborn Apostle : This card has the very fun effect of "A deck can have any number of cards named Shadowborn Apostle". A rather almost unique effect that gives this card the opportunity to be a great build around card without being the commander of the deck. Being able to tutor in any demon from the deck and instance speed by sacrificing 6 of these cards, you can with some luck, flood the board with strong hitting demons that players need to deal with or die to... I prefer they do the latter, but I assume they will fight back. Although... I do like the thrill of the hunt, soo soo much.

Bolas's Citadel : This card allows you to flood the bourd with Shadowborn Apostle as long as they stay on top of your deck. Even if there is now a Shadowborn Apostle , there still might be a useful demon or angel to summon, but will come out for an expensive health pool price if you do so.

Thrumming Stone : The idea is quite similar as with the Bolas's Citadel , but instead of paying with life points or only being able to send out the top card of your deck. You can cast one Shadowborn Apostle and hopefully put out 3-4 more Shadowborn Apostle if lucky. Enabling you to tutor in almost immediately after the card goes on the field.

Mimic Vat : What's better then a Shadowborn Apostle in a Shadowborn Apostle deck? I'd say, a way to make in infinite amount of them !! with the use of Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and Cabal Coffers combo, I'm sure you can make atleast a few of them for your next summoning.

Winter Orb & Static Orb : The idea here is to slow down the game to such a state that no other players other then yourself are able to make meaningful plays on each of there turns. Giving you enough time to summon all the Shadowborn Apostle you need to summon a demon or two. These two cards will be high priority targets to other players, making you the Archenemy of the play session.

Lightning Greaves & Swiftfoot Boots : These two cards, if in play, will almost ensure that when a demon or Kaalia of the Vast enters the battlefield you will be able to swing with it at least once before another player has time to react.

Reforge the Soul : , and don't realy have the greatest draw mechanics but do have some. This card allows you to lose all the unimportant cards in your hand and gain a fully new hand for low cost to you CMC. Sins you will more then likely be very low on cards in hand this might even simply give you a new set of 7 cards, when before you had none.

Demonic Tutor , Diabolic Tutor & Increasing Ambition : Some fun little cards that help me out with getting the cards I want. In most situations when Kaalia of the Vast is out on the field, this will probably be Master of Cruelties , for a quick one, two, strike combo.

Elbrus, the Binding Blade   : A very mana intensive card that, when its finally out, will only cost 1 CMC to attach to anything I have. The return on this investment is a 13/13 flyer with trample and intimidate. It even grows by +13/+13 when another players stops moving. Quite good. But honestly more thematic then anything.

Archfiend of Despair : Mid priority Demon. A way to both double the damage a player takes AND prevent them from gaining life ? uuuuu~ yes? yes that would be great, thanks. With some combo cards in, like Gisela, Blade of Goldnight this might be quite good honestly.

Harvester of Souls : Low priority Demon. The one Demon that switches flying for deathtouch. Sadly I do not find the value in that, I do however see the value in seeing dead things turning into card draw for me. Kinda hard without an effective way to remove creatures from the field, but one can always hope.

Herald of Anguish : Low priority Demon. Both low priority for you and for you opponents, This card removes card advantage from your enemies, but they also get to chose what they lose.. It dose however look fairly "friendly"? What I want to say, it wont kill in such a direct way that other players will try to remove it imminently form the field.

Lord of the Void : High priority Demon. A 7/7 flying bastard that takes control over other players things? yes please. I'd say this is the card to pick for a demon summoning if Kaalia of the Vast is not available on the field. I do not promise it's always the right thing to do, but honestly it probably is in majority of cases, especially with some Lightning Greaves or Swiftfoot Boots on the field.

Master of Cruelties : Highest priority Demon with Kaalia of the Vast more so then the Shadowborn Apostle . Sins she can put him out tapped and attacking the same target as her, his ability "can only attack alone" dose not activate. Making this into a 1-hit KO move against anyone you are able to attack directly.

Ob Nixilis, Unshackled : Low priority Demon. Very much a tutor hate card, won't see play in all your games, but it can be of some value. Treat little Ob Nixilis, Unshackled well, and someday he will come trough for you.

Overseer of the Damned : Mid priority Demon. A single target Creature removal and a token generator. That's nice, but without ways to remove creatures from the other side of the field effectively this might be a one trick pony. This might be quite good to get Kaalia of the Vast through some defenses by surprise at least.

Rakdos, Lord of Riots : Low priority Demon. A Mana-ramp card in , and with very specific conditions. A very niche card but I can see potential for it. Still... its a 6/6 flying trampler, you can't really go "wrong" with that.

Rakdos, the Showstopper : Mid priority Demon. A potential board wipe against any none-demons. Its based on luck though, so if you are unlike me (you have bad luck), you might not want to use this card. It's still a 6/6 flying trample creature, so at least it got that going for it.

Reaper from the Abyss : Mid priority Demon. For every time something is killed each turn, you get to kill something yourself once also? gives you more choices. This can however become a target I imagen for people who don't want to deal with his ability. Use this with the help of other players to dismantle the fields of others... be the shrewd politician you know you are at heart and dismantle the system form within and and and !! ahaha muhaha muhahahahaaaa!!..... cough right, sorry. Yes this can be quite good in the right situations.

Rune-Scarred Demon : High priority Demon with the Shadowborn Apostle . Honestly surprising, but if Kaalia of the Vast is going to be attacking the turn this card comes out, you can put a demon tutored with the Rune-Scarred Demon onto the field tapped and attacking the same target as Kaalia of the Vast . Honestly I think Master of Cruelties is the only choice you can make here, but I'm sure there might be other demons you might want to tutor for.. This combo is still way up there though.

Spawn of Mayhem : Low priority Demon. A 4/4 Flying Trample guy is not to bad. He even dose 1 damage to each opponent on each of your turns, awww how cute. In a pinch he dose grow stronger though, so he might be able to help some more in that situation, and with such low CMC it kinda easy to get him out early and kill of those pesky planeswalkers other players are throwing around.

Angel of Glory's Rise : I think it's quite obvious what she dose. But if anyone is in doubt, gaining all your Shadowborn Apostle back is quite good, when that is what your deck cares about. It's also quite nice that she will kill of any zombies on the field before the humans return.

Angel of the Dire Hour : An instant speed Player wide creature removal by Exile? ughhhhh, yes. This card is going in the deck. It might be quite hard to cast, but if you do this with the correct timing you will devastate someones board so hard they will not be able to recuperate.

Avacyn, Angel of Hope : A Indestructible card that gives everything else indestructible also. Not just creatures, but everything! Honestly I was looking for ways to just say no to this... but it's way to good to just pass off.

Gisela, Blade of Goldnight : This card doubles all damage to all opponents by any source. A great combo card to help out your good friend and ally player number 2.. to kill player number 3. This also protects you from damage and removes half of any damage you who'd had taken. Very, very nice honestly. This even combos with one of your other cards quite well, Archfiend of Despair . Lets say you attack with Gisela, Blade of Goldnight , with Archfiend of Despair on the field. She dose 10 damage, then at the end of the turn Archfiend of Despair will do 10 extra damage but Gisela, Blade of Goldnight will double it to 20... so in one attack you kinda did 30 total damage. In a game where a player has 40 health points, that is quite good. The other way around who'd be 12 then 24, soo 36.. again quite good.

Magister of Worth : Right, so this here is your official political card that will determine the end of the game, or at least it should. Allowing you (and everyone else) to regain all there dead stuff or ends up with you wiping the rest of the board of all creatures except Magister of Worth . Both can be quite good, make sure to use your personal charm on this one tough.

Tariel, Reckoner of Souls : A less effective Lord of the Void , but still... quite effective in his own right. being able to gain control of monsters from other players dose two things. Gives you more daka, and removes a threat that they might be able to get themselves. Just make sure to target a graveyard with a high probability of getting something good.

Sun Titan : This is the only creature in the deck not able to be targeted by our main cards. The Sun Titan however gives us the utility to search for creatures of CMC of 3 or less, aka Shadowborn Apostle , from the graveyward and put them onto the battlefield when he first is cast onto the field or whenever he attacks. Allowing you to re-use some of those sweet, sweet little Shadowborn Apostle .

Bedevil : Single target removal against a number of targets. Quite good to have on hand.

Mortify : Single target removal against a number of targets. Quite good to have on hand.

Terminate : Single target removal against a creature specifically. More restrictive, but stops regeneration.

Wear / Tear : A double targeting spell. Quite nice, and it targets AN enchantments and A artifacts, one of each... or just one of ether I suppose~

Damnation & Wrath of God : Two Creature board wipes of different colors, quite good at there job. Dose not deal with Indestructible creatures, but dose prevent regeneration.

Dreadbore : A single target removal again, but against creatures AND planes walkers. After the war of the sparks, I feel this has become more important.

Kindred Dominance : A Creature board wipe that cares about a tribe you pick. So all of your stuff is safe, but the other players cards get rekt. Nice~

Merciless Eviction : The one Exile card in the deck and it's a board wide exile of one type of card. Artifacts, creatures, enchantments or planeswalkers... A big panic button if anything.

Cabal Coffers & Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth : Soo, these two cards have a very fun interaction. Based on the number of Swamps you have on the field, Cabal Coffers will make that much mana. Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth will turn all lands on the board into swamps, so all your things are swamps.. catch my drift?

Maze of Ith : Removes one target creature from combat. It's some commander protection but don't relay on it all game. This card might be good to safe your own stuff as well of course, it kinda depends on the situation of course.

Vault of the Archangel : A simple buff up land. If I have nothing else to do, it better to try to funnel some mana into this and possibly get some life back when I attack or defend against an attack. Might kill a thing or two while at it.

Westvale Abbey   : A lands that can turn into a massive demon for the cost of 5 mana and by sacing in creatures. Another way to use your Shadowborn Apostle , and honestly not a bad one at all.
