Core Set 2021 New Additions —June 22, 2020

I would personally like to thank Core Set 2021 for adding new cards that would make this deck possible in this coming standard format and I will have fun being completely destroyed by Uro/Ramp/Reclamation decks and Cat-Sac/Sacrifice decks. But damnit I will be enjoying my darn time with it. Now let's go see what's coming in from the set:

  • Eliminate - First of all, a weaker Abrupt Decay is still very functional and with it being just 1-Black and 1-any color, it is extremely cost-efficient and enable it's use for other strategies such as Grixis, Dimir, Esper, Sultai, etc. Plus it will be one of our go-to removal that actually kills and makes Chevill, Bane of Monsters more functional.

  • Radha, Heart of Keld - As a more threat-heavy Courser of Kruphix, it functions both as card advantage engine and mid-late game threat with it's pump ability. If our opponent ever runs out of resources as the game plays out, by turn 6 it becomes a 9/9, First Strike beater. Really sucks it does not have trample but that would probably make it Mythic rarity at that point. Compared to Courser, Radha actually keeps the top card of your deck face down, not giving any information to your opponent.

  • Liliana, Waker of the Dead - She may no be Liliana of the Veil levels of power but damnit she is very close to being there. Traditionally, Jund tries to trade 1:1 with the opponent until we enter the war of attrition relying on top decking since by card quality we would have higher chances of getting back into the game. Now this may not be true in current matters since Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath and Teferi, Time Raveler are cards that exist, we still try to emulate the essence at least. This Liliana works similarly with LotV with the +1 being discard with added utility of a Lightning Bolt if our opponent runs out of cards, a -3 being able to kill creatures, though we need a stocked up graveyard, and an ultimate that COULD win us the game, depending on the matchup. At best her first two abilities will be the ones most used.

  • Scavenging Ooze - The ooze, the myth, the legend himself, our good friend "Scooze" may be the single, most important card for our deck (and most significant reprint right now). He is a cheap and effective threat that virtually shuts down, or at least minimize, our opponent's graveyard value that can be played early to block down the opposing board. It can grow quite quickly while gaining life against aggro strategies, hoses Escape cards, and dodges plus negates Elspeth Conquers Death reanimation. I will not be surprised that any deck running Green will be running a significant amount of this card.

  • Kaervek, the Spiteful - card: Night of Souls's Betrayal was a real card back in the day. Effectively kills off x/1s in the format like Mono Red, Cat-Oven, and severely nerfs the board state all on it's own. Yes it dies to Shock and the "Stomp" ability of Bonecrusher Giant but at that point it has taken out some form of board state from our opponent. Not to mention it has a sizable attacking body which makes it a decent threat. Other notable acts he can do is kill Brazen Borrower and trades very well into Questing Beast as a 3/3 word soup.

  • Massacre Wurm - HELLO OLD FRIEND!!. This wurmy boii was a house back in old standard, slamming down and weakening the entire opposing state and each kill saps our opponent's life by 2. Opponents that tend to go wide will have this card in their nightmares. It's simply a perfect card to have for Midrange and even Control decks against creature decks and eventually having them try to deal with a 6/5 body on board.

  • Necromentia - Between this and Unmoored Ego, I would rather have my opponent have 2/2 zombies than for them to draw. Not only that but it not having Blue mana expands its use into other Black-based decks that love to have this effect.
