Sideboard

Maybeboard

Hey guys, first time brewing a standard deck on tappedout. I've been playing a lot of the new set on arena and the 2 guilds that really stood out to me were Rakdos and Gruul, so why not take the best of both worlds? This is the first creation from the new set and I haven't seen anyone talking about Jund so I thought I'd take the first stab at it. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

The deck relies on 2-3 mana creatures, serving the dual purpose of card advantage and cheap, but efficient, bodies. Running 3 colours the more cards in the early game means we can hit those land drops to make sure we can cast our spells. That's why creatures like Dusk Legion Zealot , District Guide , Seekers' Squire and Merfolk Branchwalker are the real core of the deck.

Now that we have these small bodies we may as well put them to use. Midnight Reaper and Judith, the Scourge Diva make sure our engine never runs out and that we can really put pressure on other midrange or control decks.

The midgame is really where the deck shines however. Ravenous Chupacabra acts as both removal and a body for our 3 drops, plus makes our creature recursion even stronger. Nullhide Ferox is a great body for protecting our face and is a pain for control. There have been several games that a Nullhide has won the game due to the plethora of discard in standard, mainly the return of Disinformation Campaign Decks. Rekindling Phoenix works great in this deck, either held back to make sure more aggressive decks can't get damage in/favorable trades, or as a sticky beater when we need to end games.

Then, topping our curve are some really powerful cards at the 5 and 6 mana slots. The Eldest Reborn helps our deck against the grindier matchups, coming down usually after a combat to take out a big creature. The final chapter is also incredibly effective at finishing games, either grabbing one of our high value midrange threats or sometimes one of our smaller creatures to look for gas. Siege-Gang Commander is in there as a one of to sink mana into going into the late game and often helps us close hard matchups. Also coming with 3 other bodies helps when our opponents have likely used up most of their board wipes/removal. Im currently also trying a one of Ravanger Wurm, a card that seems incredible flexible and has already stolen several games for me. Being able to take out a powerful creature or land and then smack the opponent for 4 has really stolen my heart, and its amazing to bring back multiple times.

Along with the aforementioned Eldest Reborn I'm also running 2 Memorial to Folly and 2 Find / Finality to bring back our powerful creatures and help win slower matchups. Plus they work well with our ability to bin bodies for later with explore triggers. Finality is also just there as a cherry on top, able to help us stabilise against aggro decks or other grindy midrange decks.

Last we have our instants. Moment of Craving helps us keep the board clear of small threats and can assist as a combat trick. The deck is also quite draining on our life total, so the small lifegain does really help. Im also testing the new card, Collision / Colossus . This card is great against a metagame full of fliers as a mainboardable version of plummet with the other side helping as either a combat trick or some extra damage to close out a game.

The manabase is where I think the deck needs the most help. You don't want to run too many shocks as you already hit yourself quite a bit with cards like Midnight Reaper and Dusk Legion Zealot. You need a handful of gates for District Guide and to ensure we can cast our cards. I believe the buddy lands are the best option but do require more basics.

I hope you enjoy this brew, I've had a lot of fun and success playing (primarily best of one) so the sideboard is a bit thrown together. Any and all recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
