Jund killers

Modern Aggro B/R/G (Jund) Control

toxonic Score: 17

Description

Desecration Demon

I've been tinkering with different Jund setups lately. The theme of this deck is to constantly kill any threat that appears, using Lightning Prowess on a deathtoucher to ping creatures to death, use Olivia Voldaren to ping and steal creatures and then try to get some damage in from time to time.

Thrill-Kill Assassin Lightning Prowess

It really is just a jumble of bits and pieces that fit the theme, i would like to be able to use mutilate but i think it'll hurt me just as much as the enemy now that Lashwrithe is gone.

Sideboard explained

2x Naturalize: There isnt any artifact/enchantment removal mainboard, so this just goes here.

3x Huntmaster of the Fells  Flip: I just put there here just in case, will have to see how the meta unfolds to see if he goes into the mainboard, stays in the side or goes altogether.

1x Lightning Prowess + 1x Thrill-Kill Assassin: In some matches they cant do much about this combo.

2x Flames of the Firebrand: Can clear away little guys, like Gravecrawler and then i can use Deathrite Shaman to exile the little guys if needed.

3x Slaughter Games: When control decks are just too annoying, we remove either their control or their biggest kill.

2x Rix Maadi Guildmage: Can be good at killing off enemy blockers that are able to regenerate (see Lotleth Troll)

1x Golgari Charm: Useful vs weenies or someone with field wipes.

Swapped Bonfire of the Damned for Mizzium Mortars.

For 2 mana i can deal 4 damage to a creature. In order to deal 4 damage to each creature bonfire needs 5 mana and mortars need 6, so its about even, except you can wait for the opportune moment to cast mortars.

hey i like this idea but as a friendly note are you aware that you have 62 cards in this deck?

Just a quick note: don't forget that Lightning Prowess gives haste, so you can, with five mana, surprise drop an assassin and a prowess to kill something immediately.

This deck has an interesting theme. Looks fun to play. +1 =)

Ambush Viper also fits that theme. But I would cut your card count down to 60, unless you're playing Battle of Wits .

just wondering why not do Fervor instead of Lightning Prowess

@pappasmurf91: Lightning Prowess lets his deathtouch creatures ping other creatures to death. The haste is just an added bonus, but not the main idea.

a i missed the fact that it made the creature deal damage 1 damage. my bad. sweet combo then. feel like there should be more DT or lifelink than? maybe Deadly Recluse ? help with flying and save a few cents on the switch. just tossing up an idea for ya.

Yeh i have thought of Deadly Recluse , but i dont want to overload on the combo, just have it in there to maybe go off as it is very fragile, but at the same time it creates a threat out of nothing that may soak a kill spell, and if it does then i get to keep my fatties most likely

Jarrheadd0 says... #11

Since Lightning Prowess does create such a good combo with Deathtouch creatures, I would recommend having it as a 4 of, along with at least 12(ish?) Deathtouch creatures.

snotskie says... #12

@Jarrheadd0: he also has Ulvenwald Tracker s, which combos almost as well with deathtouch creatures as Lightning Prowess , but also combos well with the number of fatties he's running as his main offense.

I think he's going for a little more variety in how he removes stuff, making it much harder for his opponent to sideboard for game two.

Exactly what snotskie said, plus i dont like relying on a specific combo too much, it makes the deck extremely fragile, but just having that combo as a possibility might work out really well

October 3, 2012 3:14 p.m.

Jarrheadd0 says... #14

Well, couldn't you just use 4 of both? The more possible pieces to a combo, the better.

October 3, 2012 4:19 p.m.

toxonic says... #15

Perhaps i can put a couple in the sideboard if the combo works too well, but i think if i focus too much on getting the combo to be reliable i will loose my other forms of control / survival, sort of like too much of a good thing

October 3, 2012 4:37 p.m.

That is exactly right Toxonic and the more options you can have in a deck the better it becomes, also the more overwhelmed your opponents will become. I like the deck and it seems to be a great deck. Havve you considered running Rakdos's Return I like it slighty better than Bonfire Of the Damned I can Always board wipe or clear a field but emptiyng your opponents hand can be highly devastating, Also Shreiking affliction is a great combo piece with Rakdos's Return Make your opponent suffer for playing with no hand as well as force them to keep cards in there hand it causes a mental lock do I do this or that. either way +1 from me I love the Deck. Check out my Rakdos, Riders Of Hell, I assure you, you won't be disapointed.

Nightshade peddler with thundermaw hellkite's etb ability will devastate opponents using fliers.

@OFABass I was considering Blood Artist , but im unsure how effective he would be overall. I know he would hurt my opponent a lot but so do most of my other creatures, except that they also provide removal/control.

@gheridarigaaz I know giving Thundermaw Hellkite deathtouch would destroy a fliers deck, but if i was up against a zombie deck then the peddler would be completely useless. Maybe i can give him a spot in the sideboard, because he teams up nicely with Olivia Voldaren and Lightning Prowess also.

maybe -2 Desecration Demon +2 Rakdos, Lord of Riots... Desecration Demon , Olivia Voldaren and Thundermaw Hellkite all would be out much faster with him . you would then be able to play more than one fatty on your next turn and for an opponent with only 1 removal spell in hand that can win you the game. i like this deck a lot though.+1

Or you could combine Izzet Staticaster with Nightshade Peddler in RUG colors.
