mtg, mtg cards, magic the gathering, gaming, geeks
Basically the point of this deck is to swing and keep swingin. You have a bunch of efficient 1 drops that start off, and then you move into beaters like the Lol-Troll and Geralf's Messenger. You then finish the game with the Aristocrat, and the Thragtusk can provide stability and serves as a heavy beater.
Efficient beaters, combined with a decent amount of removal, means I can get damage through a lot of the time.
The sideboard needs some work, so lemme know what you think!
Thanks and don't forget to +1 :D
Also debating on doing a transformational sideboard (which is the maybeboard right now) to make the deck suuuuper fast and lethal, hopefully winning by turn 4/5. Lemme know what you think.
Made some more changes, Rancor's back in.
-2 Thundermaw Hellkite-3 Dreg Mangler+1 Lotleth Troll+4 Rancor-1 Swamp+1 Woodland Cemetery
Changed up a bunch of cards after playtesting this weekend. The Guildmage is really nice because it makes my creatures even scarier...they don't want to block and then they don't want to take the damage.
Trying out a bit more of an aggressive approach
-1 Blood Artist-2 Garruk Relentless-1 Sign in Blood+2 Rakdos Shred-Freak+2 Desecration Demon
After playtesting, I found that I needed more spot removal and that the Huntmasters weren't really doing much, as you have to wait a turn until they become really beneficial to my gameplan.
you have an almost complete Jund aggro-control but instead you go for splinterfright when the new Set is about to drop a lot of Graveyard hate..... not the smartest option.
I would go this way:- 3 Splinterfright
Yeah, that's true, I just saw all those new spoillers :(
And very good point on the Sign in Blood ...
Also, thanks a bunch for taking the time to check this out and give your thougts :)
Yes Thragtusk is your life gain at a point you should be near death.
Garruk Relentless Flip is more a flavour card, just like Jarad. He has a bolt when he comes on board, he is a nice finisher with his -3 (on the flipped side), if you can't ult is no problem either, he makes some defensive wolvs, and he is not a target for Abrupt Decay , I think he can really shine in this deck.
Well the main point i'm getting to now is that you need more 3 CMC cards.
I would add 2 Dreg Mangler it would probably fix the mana curve problem.Dreg Mangler is a extremly agressive turn 3 drop being a 3/3 with haste and having scavenge to be usable later in the game is nice, also he is a zombie that makes easier to use the cavern of souls and gravecrawler's ability.
Try droping the 2 Jarads for him. I tryed out and they aren't doing that much.If you don't wanna drop the 2 Jarads you can drop 1 jarad and 1 sign in blood or 1 garruk, I guess the effect will be similar.
Mana has some issues also but I haven't time now to fix that, but the main problem is the Rootbound Crag never comes untapped ._. I guess you could drop those for swamps and mountains instead.
And in the playtesting I've done, I haven't had the same problem with Rootbound Crag ...but now that you mention it, that could be a major issue. I'll test it with a Mountain and Forest instead.
I've playtested it and it feels pretty solid now, altough that 2 basic lands you added (Mountain and Forest) seem unecessary to me. Switch them with 2 Swamps, it will make your life easier if you want to play those card:Geralf's Messenger untapped turn 3. Also you don't have a spell of 2 CMC that doesn't require black, and you have enough Dual lands to make it for the other 2 colors.
This will probably be THE DECK in T2.
Is Deathrite Shaman the one where you like tap and exile a card from a graveyard and do something? Lol that sounds so vague. Also, the Golgari Charm jusst got leaked and that looks sick too, I just don't know where/if I could fit it in. And I get the idea of the Thundermaw Hellkite , but I was really digging the 5 life from the Thragtusk. Between the all out aggression, Sign in Blood s and shocklands, I'm anticipating my health to be very low at that point if I hadn't drawn a Blood Artist or two before that. But at the same time the Hellkite could be the finisher right there. It's just I noticed that the Thragtusk can simply keep me alive and have board presence and the WHAM miracle Bonfire haha. But I don't know. I'll do some play testing once I get a chance
Also, thanks so much man for your help on this. I hope you've enjoyed testing this as much as I have :D
For GW Aggro, I have the Dreadbore and good ol Thraggy would probably help in that match up.
I have absolutely no idea what to put in the SB for rainbow control though.
I guess playing zombies is already a advantage vs control cause most of them can return to the battlefield even when destroyed.
So I was thinking, would Vampire Nighthawk be a better 3 drop than the Dreg Mangler ? The life gain is nice, and the deathtouch can definitely come in handy...but a hasty 3/3 for 3 with scavenge is also nice, and the zombie creature type helps out the Gravecrawler ...so I'm kinda torn
Well i think having a card in the deck that is only good against specific decks isn't a great idea, and it doesn't help with draw it just replaces itself.
personally i would run Deathrite Shaman instead if your that worried about those decks because it does a MUCH better job of shitting them down and it might be able to ramp too.
suggest for if you do add Deathrite Shaman
The better your deck is the better i can make mine for testing keep up the good work.
@Mykethecorpseman - yeah, I've considered Mutilate and Blasphemous Act for my SB, but went with Act because I can regenerate my troll, leaving me potentially one creature ahead of my opponent after wiping the board. And thanks for the +1!
@TheManOnTheMoon - I used to have him in there, but he's kinda useless unless you get the troll out. So I'd rather have the Diregraf Ghoul to smash face :)
