Maybeboard

Primer

This deck is a TON of fun to play, the goal of the deck is to cast the commander and as many other copies of her as you can. Then, play a ton of Cheerios (artifacts that basically do nothing and cost 0-mana) until you draw into a win con.

You might like this deck if:

-you like to have to think through every play and to think a few moves ahead

-You don't want to win through combat damage

-You like a playing a pretty unique deck

-You like winning out of nowhere all in one turn

-You like playing a boom or bust gameplan

You might not like this deck if:

-You like winning through combat damage

-You don't want to win the same way each game

-You don't want to be reliant on your commander

-You like big mana decks

Other Possible Commanders

Urza, Lord High Artificer

This card is INSANE. It basically single handedly got Paradox Engine banned, rip Paradox Engine. However, while we are perfectly fine with playing this card, Urza, Lord High Artificer doesn’t let us play red (which doesn't seem bad but it cuts off 2 possible Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain's and some good removal) AND because playing 0 mana artifacts doesn't provide card advantage, it terms of cantriping every time you cast one. Urza, Lord High Artificer is a better commander for stax decks, since Winter Orb doesn't effect you as badly if you have Winter Orb tapping for mana.

Elsha of the Infinite

I don't really see this in my playgroup, so I can't speak to this commander as much. But on face value, this card costs 1 mana more which doesn't seem to much, however because the deck is a glass cannon of sorts, delaying you're storming off turn by 1 gives opponents more time to find removal for our important pieces. On top of that, having another color makes it harder to run so many basics and we will have to run more expensive lands even though white as a color doesn't give us much. This also would be bad for one of our best upgrade options, hating on nonbasic lands.

The Commander, and Other Effects Like the Commander

Before Dominaria this deck didn't exist, full stop. This deck works ONLY with Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain or another effect like that (Vedalken Archmage, Riddlesmith, or Quicksmith Genius), unless you are about to win. These cards make it worthwhile to play 25 cards that basically do nothing. They let us churn through the deck to find the win cons and the ways to protect the win cons. Some of these are less good than others, but we need every possible copy of Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain we can so we use them all. Tip: try not to play a secondary Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain and pass the turn, anyone who has ever played against this deck will know next turn you are looking to go off and will try to kill it. Also, Sensei's Divining Top Along with any cost reducer is a another draw engine. How it works is you cast a cheerio and in response to Jhoira’s trigger tap top drawing a card and putting top on top of your library (no pun intended), Jhoira’s tigger will resolve and you will draw the top. Finally, you cast top drawing another card, so all in all you ended up drawing 2 cards off of 1 cheerio. This is also great because it increases your Storm count by double, making an Aetherflux Reservoir kill easier.

More of the primer soon to come!
