Updates to the deck —Aug. 6, 2018

I have been enjoying the deck so I made some improvements that i think will greatly increase the power of the deck. Mainly Darksteel Forge and Mycosynth Lattice. There were a few other additions and subtractions like getting rid of some of the Islands and adding in Mountains. Along with adding a couple of lands, this should really help give me clean first hands and somewhat consistent land drops. Though the deck doesn't need them at a point, you still need at least two of each color in case of a board wipe. Some other additions are more as a test to see what I can do with them. Two that come to mind are Psychic Corrosion and Saheeli Rai. I want the new Tezzeret, but I am going with the slightly more budget option of Saheeli. Psychic Corrosion is just a potential win-con and a decent way to just get rid of potential threats.

The deck is still somewhat budget in my opinion. I try to keep my decks around $100 and that is what I consider being budget. But up to $150 is also in a decent budget range. This deck has won at FNM, though still in a casual setting. If you enjoy drawing cards and having turns where you pop off and win out of no where. This deck might be something you want to try. I will not say that it is the strongest deck. But it is fun and can win you a game or two.

Some more good ways to make artifacts cheaper is Cloud Key, which itself is of course an artifact, and Grand Architect, who can turn any of your artifact creatures into Sol Rings. You might also like to find room for Inventors' Fair - it's pricey, but having another tutor built into a land can come in handy.

Also, are you sure about Slobad? I know he's Historic and all, and he fits the theme, but he always seemed a very underwhelming card to me. Even without the free card draw from Jhoira, I think you'd have a lot more success replacing him with Goblin Welder.

ClockworkSwordfish Thanks for reminding me of Inventors' Fair! When I was building the deck I knew there was a card like this but the name escaped me at the moment. That is a definite add. I will also consider Grand Architect. The +1/+1 is nice since most of my colored creatures are blue. And the Sol Ring effect that it can give seems pretty strong. Cloud Key is definitely a good add for the deck and I will put it in my 'Maybe' section as it is a good card and a good upgrade. But at the moment I am happy keeping the price a tad lower.

When it comes to Slobad, Goblin Tinkerer, I agree that he is only an okay card for the deck. The main reason he is in is like you mentioned with the card draw. But a couple times there have been board wipes that I have used Slobad's ability to save my most important artifacts so I can ramp myself back into a good board state. That way I can save my most important cards. However, when I think about it, this card can just return one a turn throughout the whole game possibly. I will play a little more with Slobad and see how I feel about him. Thanks for the suggestions!

I like the layout of the deck. One thing I would recommend is an infinite mana combo (unless you have one and I am missing it). you could do this just by adding Dramatic Reversal to the deck. Combo that with Isochron Scepter, 3 mana from rocks and your set.

dhynes1 I actually do have one! And I already have Dramatic Reversal in the deck. I can do the one that you suggested, or I can just have Filigree Sages out with Astral Cornucopia out with at least 4 counters on it. That is the less likely one, but still another possibility.

Could you find a place for Traxos, Scourge of Kroog in this deck as a raw damage attacker?

InquisitorBiggie Hmmm. I will definitely consider it! It seems like winning via combat damage isn't really the main way to win while using this deck. Though a backup is always nice. I have the card already so maybe I will throw it in a few games and see how it goes. Thank you for the suggestion.

nuggnugg I totally missed that. I really like the deck though. One idea that I found great was putting Tidespout Tyrant in. Gives you the option to clear other people's boards along with returning low cost artifacts to have more card draw. Plus protect against removal.

dhynes1 Now that is an interesting card... The mana cost is a tad high (understandably) and the $ price is a tad up there. But that is a win if I have something like Spellbook and a Ornithopter out. Just picking through my library until I find Leveler and Laboratory Maniac. Or really any number of things. I will definitely put that one in the 'to buy' section.

You can get it under a dollar thanks to battlebond reprinting it. The CMC is worth it if you have 2 artifacts you can cast for 0, infinite card draw.
