The greatest trick Spike ever pulled...

Being the types of players we (my little playgroup) are, we never actually played any Modern, not even casually. We had "Modern" decks, but they were just old Standard decks we didn't want to dismantle. Personally, when I played my Modern decks, I would feel like the deck could work so much better if I only had a few hundred more dollars to splurge. Each time it felt like I was just playing a janky, budget version of a much better deck that I would never actually be willing to shell out the money for.

When Pioneer became a thing, we eventually looked at our Modern decks and realized they were basically all Pioneer decks already. With just a few small tweaks, we could have a bunch of good Pioneer decks, instead of a handfull of midling-to-weak, low-powered, casual-only "Modern" decks. We don't play competitively, but we are experience, knowledgeable players who like to know that we're playing good decks--most of the time. ;)

This deck suffered one of the biggest changes during my conversion, because I had to remove my playsets of Flooded Strands, Lightning Bolts and serum visions. Oh and Talrand, The Sky Summoner, too, which is a card I've always wanted to use. This is one of the only one of my decks that truly got "downgraded" to Pioneer, but at least now I'll play the damn thing.

I can use the Lightning Bolts and serum visions in Pauper decks, which I play a literal metric shit-ton of, and the Flooded Strands can go into EDH and Oathbreaker decks that I already have or will make soon. So these awesome cards I have will still get used. Which is what I really want most as a Magic player: to use as many of the cards that I like as I can.

And now you know my thoughts on Modern versus Pioneer, and why I'm converting all my Modern decks over. Hopefully this new format works out, and I can enjoy playing this deck far into the future.
