So this deck was a brew of mine I made on MTG Arena. I decided to take it to the classic week 1 simply because I had huge success online with it.

Teferi, Hero of Dominaria - No surprise but Teferi is still here and is as strong as ever. Teferi is one of the win-cons of the deck and a card advantage engine. He is only a 3-of because we are running another powerful planeswalker in this deck.

Ral, Izzet Viceroy - Ral was very impressive in the Classic throughout the tournament. Being able to -3 and kill something huge and also still be at 2 loyalty to not die to a llanowar elf or a vampire token was surprisingly relevant. He also fuels the graveyard for Search for Azcanta   and Crackling Drake and digs a little bit deeper than Teferi.

Crackling Drake - Before you tell me I'm stupid for playing this card in control hear me out. It draws a card aka 2 for 1's spot removal. It is a great blocker even if it trades(again 2 for 1). It applies pressure in a control mirror and draws removal for your planeswalkers to stick later. With Vraska's Contempt and Assassin's Trophy in the format, this was very relevant.

Niv-Mizzet, Parun - This guy is just a messed up Magic card. It's pretty hard to lose after resolving him especially if you can either untap with him or hold up at least one counterspell. Overall performed really well and was a very strong finisher.

Deafening Clarion - this card feels really well positioned right now. Hits mono-red, mono-blue, mono-green(kinda), boros, and selesnya tokens all pretty hard. Definitely a 3 of maindeck in Jeskai right now and one of the main reasons to play Jeskai over another variant.

Cleansing Nova - Pretty good against any deck playing creatures but very good against mono-green which can be a somewhat difficult match-up for this deck. Destroying enchantments and artifacts was relevant a couple of times as well to get an Experimental Frenzy and a Conclave Tribunal.

Lava Coil - Pretty solid removal spell one of the best red removal spells we have available. Not really sure how many of each copy of our spot removal spells we should be playing so I just kinda spread it out.

Lightning Strike - Lightning Strike is Lightning Strike. Going face can actually be relevant in this deck but the main upside to this card over Lava Coil is the instant speed.

Justice Strike - This is some premium spot removal in the current format. It hits almost everything relevant besides Aurelia, Exemplar of Justice so it's bacically 2-mana Murder right now. Might be adding more copies of this.

Ionize - I was mainly playing Ionize because it is easier on the mana than Sinister Sabotage but I ended up going 2 and 2 instead of the full playset of Ionize. This is something that will just require more testing I think.

Sinister Sabotage - Surveil 1 on this card is much more relevant than the deal 2 on Ionize but I was scared of the so I only played 2.

Essence Scatter - Essence Scatter is really well positioned right now I think every control deck should be running 2 or 3

Search for Azcanta   - Obviously an all-star in control we definitely want 2 copies at least.

Chemister's Insight - It's great that we have an effect like this to replace Glimmer of Genius and Hieroglyphic Illumination. Having a full 4 was a little clunky at times but I was usually glad to see them. Works really well with Niv-Mizzet as well.

Well there you have it. I went 6-0 and then drew the last two rounds of swiss to be seeded at number 2 for the cut to top 8. I lost in the first round though unfortunately but the deck felt very strong throughout the tournament.

If you liked the deck be sure to leave a +1 so others can see it. Leave a comment with any questions or suggestions and I will try to get back to you. Thanks :)
