Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord of Control!

I've been playing this deck for six years now. I've considered it finished for a while, but I like to revisit it from time to time in order to buff and streamline it. It's designed as a black/green control deck.

The objective of my Jarad EDH deck is to cast Lord of Extinction and Sac it to Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord . With luck he's huge enough to straight up win you the game.

If that doesn't work out the second win condition is get both Mikaeus, the Unhallowed + Triskelion onto the battlefield. If you succeed at that there is an infinite combo. Remove a +1/+1 counter from Triskelion to ping a player then have Triskelion ping itself twice. He returns with undying and you repeat infinitely. You win!

If that fails try getting Sheoldred, Whispering One and Kokusho, the Evening Star out together. Then every turn sac Kokusho to Jarad and at upkeep return him with Sheoldred. This is a 10 life loss for your opponents each turn and you gain some life too.

Lastly, an alternate win condition from the sideboard is Mossbridge Troll . Get it in play along with several other large creatures, use his activated ability twice, and sacrifice him to Jarad to make each opponent lose 45 life.

Focus primarily on tutoring for the cards needed to set up your board. Survival of the Fittest , Garruk Relentless  , Fauna Shaman , Diabolic Tutor , Rune-Scarred Demon , Birthing Pod , and Green Sun's Zenith are all good for this purpose.

Swapable Cards:

Below is a list of some of the more expensive cards that can be swapped out for more reasonably priced substitutes.

Update 2-12-2018:

Hey there! Just thought I'd stop in and make a few quick changes. Several new sets are out and after much playtesting I've swapped out some cards.

Desecration Demon is out for Noxious Gearhulk . The demon is decent but is weak to tokens and decks that wants sac outlets, whereas the gearhulk is removal, has menace, and gives you life. Making it hugely impactful.

Hoarder's Greed is out for Morbid Curiosity . Hoarder's Greed is far too inconsistent, while Morbid Curiosity synergizes with Grave Pact, Mindslicer, Solemn, or Kokusho.

Dimir House Guard is out for Shefet Monitor . This was the hardest change. Dimir House Guard is good, but I've barely ever used it. For one extra mana you ramp, and draw a card. That's a lot of value.

Update 4-13-2021:

Hello! Thanks for stopping by. I'm back with an update for my Jarad deck. After a couple years and many sets, here are the changes I've made to this deck.

Crypt of Agadeem is out for Phyrexian Tower . Crypt is an interesting card, but I never found myself activating it. Either all I could do was break even, or the game was over far before it would be a source for big mana. It has been replaced by Phyrexian Tower which is more useful for getting a little extra mana and is an extra sac outlet.

Morbid Curiosity is out for Liliana, Dreadhorde General . I tried Morbid Curiosity for a while, but it was too slow. It has been replaced by Liliana, Dreadhorde General who just outclasses Morbid by every metric.

Abrupt Decay is out for Assassin's Trophy . Easy choice here. Trade the uncounterability for the chance to hit any target. Yup all around great change.

Green Sun's Zenith is out for Finale of Devastation . Green Sun's had the problem of only hitting half the creatures in the deck. It's out for Finale of Devastation which is much stronger and a finisher.

Gilt-Leaf Palace is out for Nurturing Peatland . There was only a small number of elves to get Gilt-Leaf in untapped. It was consistently coming in tapped in my games. It's out for Nurturing Peatland which can still draw you a card in the late game.

Deathrite Shaman is out for Fiend Artisan . After many games I've come to the conclusion that Deathrite Shaman (as much as I love him) is fighting against the endgame of the deck, which is a huge Lord of Extinction sacced to Jarad. Fiend Artisan is in to further the end game and tutor for needed creatures.

Bloodgift Demon is out for Finale of Eternity . Bloodgift demon has been part of the deck since I created it. In the many games I've had it out I've only ever gotten a small number of turns with it before it dies. I wanted to make room for Finale of Eternity so Bloodgift was cut.
