Introduction

Hello and welcome to my primer for Pauper Izzet Blitz. This is a deck that I have been playing with since the start of pauper, blitz tries to stick a threat in either Kiln Fiend or Nivix Cyclops and use their triggered abilities through cheap cantrips giving them massive power to kill in a single swing. At heart this is a combo deck but it does have the ability to play a longer game if you play it right.

Cantrips + Enablers

Once we stick one of our creatures we need to string together cheap cantrips like Ponder and Preordain to draw through our deck getting more cantrips to make our threats even bigger. We also have cards to prevent them from being blocked in Distortion Strike and Slip Through Space , we only have 2 of these (1 copy each) since we our deck is incredibly consistent with all the cantrips. You will draw enough cards to find one of these and have cast enough spells that our threat will be lethal. Our big payoff is Temur Battle Rage , with casting this by itself we already get the ferocious trigger, all we need to do is get our Kiln Fiend or Nivix Cyclops to 10 power, which is 3 spells, and cast a battle rage and it's a lethal hit with the double strike from Temur Battle Rage .

Protection

Due to the "All In" nature of our deck we need to protect our threats, we have protection in the form of counterspells like Dispel and Daze , we don't run Counterspell due to the cost being 2 sometimes being a bit hard for us to keep going making our threat bigger, Daze and Dispel are perfect since they are cheap (Daze being free to cast) and frees up our mana to keep casting our cantrips to go in for the kill. Another way we can protect our threats is with an actual protection spell in Apostle's Blessing costing us only one mana, buffing our creatures, and protecting them. One nice thing about Apostle's Blessing is that we can use it to also get through blockers if we don't have Distortion Strike or Slip Through Space in hand.

Free Spells

One of the best interactions with our creatures are our free spells, the best one being Gitaxian Probe because it gives us perfect information about our opponents hand, letting us know if we can go in for the kill, and draws us a card. Snap is mostly used to get rid of a blocker to get our threat through, but in niche situations can be used to protect our own creature. Mutagenic Growth gives our creatures more power and is just another free instant to trigger our threats.

Flex Spots

We have a choice for our third creature spot, it can go to Delver of Secrets   or Augur of Bolas , and when choosing which creature to use (never run a split), ask yourself: Do I want to be proactive or reactive? If you want to be proactive, choose delver, if you want to be reactive, choose augur, augur of bolas is a reactive card since he helps us dig deeper in our deck to either find protection or more cantrips. Another flex is you can turn the Mutagenic Growth into a 4th Gitaxian Probe or even a Gut Shot which is really good against opposing unflipped Delvers or Elves.

Sideboard

Obviously you should tune your sideboard to what is in your meta, my sideboard in this list is for a meta filled with Dimir Delver, Burn, and affinity which are all very popular online and in my local meta. But some good options to keep in mind are Spell Pierce for opposing delver decks, burn, or control. It also is good against tron if they haven't assembled it yet. If there are Circle of Protection: Red floating around in your meta then you may want some copies of Flaring Pain in your sideboard.

Thank you for taking the time to read my primer, this is definitely by far my most favorite deck to play in pauper out of the ones I have (which I am working on primers for) if you have any questions feel free to comment and I'll answer as time allows me.
