Premise of the deck is to essentially control their field with instants and sorceries. If you can't counter a card, that's okay because the deck runs field control burn spells as well!

Soul-Scar Mage will keep the big creatures you can't kill with 1 or 2 burn spells small.

Of course we won't have enough to counter everything, but Harsh Mentor punishes them for activating any ability that isn't mana based.

Enigma Drake just keeps getting bigger every time you use an instant or sorcery! Guess what? That's practically the whole deck.

Since we're a control/aggro deck we're going to run out of a hand fairly quick, so Bedlam Reveler and Pull from Tomorrow will fix that.
