Interesting. I've always liked the Eventide Mimics. Anything from Lorwyn-Shadowmoor block makes me a happy camper. :D Schismotivate , what a bizarre card. Another one of your decks into my playtest folder.. That folder is starting to become unmanageable!! +1

Btw, I've got a new build I'm working on, I could use some help with it when you've got the time, its Melira's Zenith.

I swear, this site has to implement a new policy about deck names using Izzet as a pun...

Anyways, nice one. +1

Neat deck. I really like Spellheart Chimera with Runechanter's Pike . I was contemplating how cool they are together just a few days ago.

Oooo, lots of +1's~!

Thanks everyone!

Yeah they are really interesting PriestessKikyo1. I was looking at the others but these are the only ones I could implement in a deck. But they sure make this deck really strong! And thanks for the folder addition . ~

I've seen quite a few of them TheDevicer, but I think this one is my favourite because it actually sounds like the words it's meant to be a pun of. Also because it's my pun~

Too bad Spellheart Chimera didn't appear in the RTR set Midwest, even with my lack of standard knowledge I think that would have made this deck really competitive in standard.

When I saw Spellheart Chimera , I just went looking for all the izzet cards in existence HarbingerJK. These two definitely solidified my idea of making an izzet tempo deck (least I think this is tempo) when I saw them. I wonder if there was a standard deck back in the day that used them.

Couldn't tell you to be honest. I was in the middle of a long break from magic when Eventide was released. Although Eventide was the first booster box I bought so it has a special place in my heart lol

Ignore that deckname from earlier, apparently I chose a name that was already taken so it linked to his deck not mine. The new name is Melira's Dance of Infinite Life and Death.

@TheDevicer, are you saying izzet a good pun, or izzet a bad pun. Or izzet just me wondering.

A friend of mine runs an extremely similar deck, and one of the really helpful cards in it is Dissolve . It's somewhat similar to Remand , but doesn't let you draw a card all out (only scry). But perhaps, as you said, you're fine with the delay effect and like the draw, rather than a complete spell shutdown and a scry.

In any case, very nice. +1 from me.

@ Skimm3r

Someone runs something very similar?

...

NOOOOOOOO!!!!

curls up in the corner and cries

Anyways, I won't use Dissolve as I do like the draw. I do however already have alternate forms of "hard-countering" in my side. I don't like paying 3 mana for a Counterspell , so I chose other 2 mana ones whose hindering effects to make them 2 mana don't really hinder this deck all too much. Thanks for the suggestion though ~

You might want to re-upvote this deck, it didn't go through.

This looks like a very good control deck. I'd add Spell Snare for the hard counter, since plenty of over powered two mana cards are being played in modern. I'd run atleast one more Isochron Scepter , becuse coppying your counter spells is amazing, not to mention copying the 3-4 mana spells to decrease cost. I'd also put in one more Riverfall Mimic : you'll always be happy to draw more of them, becase one spell can provide 2-3 unblockable creatrues. You could look for more things with dual mana symbols in it, becusae they are less restritive but still pull off Riverfall Mimic . Becuase I am a nice person, I'm warning you about the Serum Visions , you HAVE to draw before you scry. I know you said that you didn't want the dissolve because it is too much mana, but imagine imprinting it! all of a sudden, you have a Counterspell plus scrying on a stick. Make sure you remember to trigger Riverfall Mimic off the Isochron Scepter , it says you copy the spell and cast the copy, meaning everything the imprinted spell has, so does the copy (including the colors).

do you know what would be funny? Riverfall Mimic triggers Riverfall Mimic

Lissa says... #19

May I suggest you some other creatures? They might be useful in other situations:

Nivix Cyclops gets +3/+0 for each instant or sorcery

Kiln Fiend same as above

Wee Dragonauts Similar to spellheart chimera, but more bursty and less sustained.

Blistercoil Weird A good one mana drop

The problem with your suggestions Lissa, is that they don't really belong in a control deck where I can't guarantee playing spells on my turn. This may seem counter-intuitive to Riverfall Mimic , but that counts my creatures as well. Those creatures are better off in RDW, storm and combo style decks as in those decks I am playing multiple spells on my turn.

I used to have 4x of each creature timothy130130, but that frequently had me with creatures when I wanted control. The updates show what I removed and what I added. I also don't like putting Isochron Scepter to more than 2 as I never want 2 or more at any given time. I'll rarely have the mana for to be able to use two scepter effectively, as I'm spending mana on my turn for other things like creatures or 3 cmc + spells. Also, while I can generally make sure I get a good imprint with one scepter, having two means I have to wait for another good imprint, meaning it is a dead draw for many turns, which I do not want. Also, I can only put instants of cmc 2 or less on the staff, so Dissolve is out of the question there.

I know very well that Riverfall Mimic triggers on my creatures and spells cast from Isochron Scepter , though I'll put it in the description.

Thanks for the suggestions though, I appreciate everyone's help. You only grow with each suggestion as you learn of alternate playing styles~

Femme_Fatale says... #21

Oh, and Spell Snare is meta specific, as I have to know that most of my opponents will be running key 2 cmc spells, and since games usually run to turn 8-14, I can't really guarantee that. I'll consider it though if I see that I am facing a lot of pivotal 2 cmc cards.

Hi, I'm new here, so apologies, etc. if my suggestions aren't novel. How about Psychotic Fury for some pump and card draw?

December 5, 2013 5:09 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #23

That is actually a fairly good suggestion dmpv01, considering the lack-luster that is Schismotivate . Which is unfortunate, because it is such a flavour full card.

DMPv01 says... #24

My thought was to replace a couple of Serum Visions with it to give the deck a little more teeth.

December 6, 2013 9:44 a.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #25

Unfortunately dmpv01, this is where you are wrong. I need the Serum Visions in here because A) it is a one mana cantrip, and B), It helps set up my next two turns. Which in this control build, is very important. The cheapness of it means I can still cast it and not have to worry about not having enough mana to play my creatures and counterspells.
