It's so cute! You want it right?

Modern* Combo Control Creatureless UBR (Grixis)

Xak

Sideboard

Everyone who played standard during Magic Origins through Eldritch Moon knows of this combo: use all the good parts of Demonic Pact then give it to your opponent via Harmless Offering.

Demonic Pact is a really strong card with a slight downside. You can lose the game if you don't play correctly. I love living on the edge and playing obscure combos in any format that I play, so attempting to bring back my favorite standard deck in modern sounds like a good idea right?

I took the generic grixis control shell (with the cards that I have) and for the most part took out the delve win cons, Tasigur, the Golden Fang and Snapcaster Mage, for my jank win condition. I play this as a tempo deck hoping to just remove/counter everything until turn 4 and play a pact. Most of the format has a hard time removing a 4 CMC enchantment, so it should generally stick. If it doesn't work out or you cant give it you can always return it to your hand with Consign or Cryptic Command, but with the amount of cantrips you have you should be able to find either Dark Petition or Harmless Offering easily even though they are 2 of's.

Keep in mind this is a fun deck, and it is not competitive. This is just me trying to get some weird faces and laughs out of people at my LGS.

Will you take my kitty?

Updates Add

After a few edits to the deck with some friends at the store I went 2-2. Beat Naya Burn and Esper control. Lost to Scapeshift and Infect.

I made additional edits to fix the combo deck problem with the cards that I have. Lost Legacy and Collective Brutality is amazing vs the burn match-up healing me and taking a burn spell while still being like a Duress in the other matchups.

Unfortunately since this is not my main modern deck, to get cards for my main deck I traded Inquisition of Kozilek and can therefore no longer use the card.
