"Of course it will grow beyond control - it was designed to choose its own evolution"

And its own evolution is...

LOYALTY ABILITIES!

Simply follow this 6-step process:

  1. Play Experiment Kraj
  2. Give it hexproof or shroud
  3. Play a planeswalker
  4. Turn the planeswalker into an artifact planeswalker
  5. Turn the artifact planeswalker into an artifact creature planeswalker
  6. Put a +1/+1 counter on the artifact creature planeswalker

Now Kraj can use the loyalty abilities of that planeswalker, since, technically, they are loyalty abilities, and the planeswalker is a creature with a +1/+1 counter on it. It can activate one loyalty ability each turn. It sill needs enough loyalty counters in order to use minus abilities, but it can zero and plus abilities immediately. Kraj's loyalty abilities can also be proliferated.

But the best part is, Kraj can't be attacked because, technically, it isn't a planeswalker. Although the planeswalker that gives it the abilities can be attacked and killed, it can be protected by combat tricks, good blockers, and attacking restrictions. If it does die, it can be replaced by another planeswalker if you follow the process again. Hopefully, eventually Kraj can build up enough counters to activate an ultimate.
