Love it. Heartless Summoning with Archwing Dragon here is pretty damn cool, and a turn 3 Thundermaw Hellkite is nothing to sniff at.

There is an anti-synergy here between Heartless Summoning and your one-toughness drops, notably Dragon Hatchling and Daggerdrome Imp . I understand you would be playing Heartless Summoning later, but even so once it hits play you're putting yourself behind on cards somewhat once those creatures hit the bucket. You could try switching these for a) Cheaper creatures but with 2 toughness or more or b) Cheap creatures that like to die, such as Black Cat .

How about: -3 Daggerdrome Imp +3 Black Cat -1 Dragon Hatchling +1 Dreadbore ? I like Dragon Hatchling :P.

Thanks for the comments!

Maybe -2x Plains +1 Isolated Chapel and +1 Clifftop Retreat ?

Wabbbit says... #4

No, because then I can't search for them with Evolving Wilds :).

Ring of Valkas plus Slumbering Dragon is a combo, in that they are a combination of cards with what we like to call "synergy". :D

And hasty Dragons do more damage too.

Wabbbit says... #8

I know what a combo is! xD.

Fervor makes dragons hasty :P.

Hmm, this seems familiar. I'm actually working with a similar build in my deck:the-big-lebrakdosi deck.

I would drop Black Cat in favor of Duress so you can get a peak at your opponents hand and game plan early on. In my deck I play less creatures but much more removal, and so far with playtesting against other standard builds, I find my games start with me defensive early on, and tend to finish between rounds 7 and 12.

I'm not a fan of Slumbering Dragon at all, lazy beast that he is. I'd drop him in favor of one of my favorite board clears Magmaquake or its handicapped cousin Street Spasm .

+1 from a fellow fan of Heartless Summoning , check out my deck deck:the-big-lebrakdosi and see what you think. Good luck!

Uh, wouldn't Dragon Hatchling Die from Heartless Summoning ?

September 27, 2012 5:23 p.m.

Wabbbit says... #11

Yeah, Chuck13s he does. He may lack synergy, but he helps early game which is the only reason he's in here :P. Plus he's a dragon :). I like black cat because it's not as limited as Duress , and it works well with Heartless Summoning . How can you not love Slumbering Dragon ?! Love him xD.

I'll check it out when I can ;).

Chuck13s says... #12

Well consider this.

By turn 2, you should have played Heartless Summoning , if not, then you shouldn't have taken that hand.

Also, early game Dragon Hatchling will be a 2 drop for a 0/1. It'll die real early either way. You need some more fire power then a 0/1 turn 2. I don't what, but anything else.

Also, Clifftop Retreat . Needs more white.

I'm going to have to agree with most of the above comments.

Here's what I would personally do:

-2 Fervor

-3 Black Cat

-2 Dragon Hatchling

-1 Moonveil Dragon (triple red in the mana cost is too unreliable in a 3 color deck)

+1 Heartless Summoning (you probably need four)

+4 Duress (usually better than Black Cat )

+3 Ring of Valkas (some of your creatures already have haste, so no need for Fervor ; plus, the ring works with Slumbering Dragon )

I like your addition of the Frites strategy in a Heartless shell for the extra consistency and speed.

Wabbbit says... #15

How is Duress better? It's not a creature, has no synergy with Heartless Summoning , AND I have to choose a nonland, noncreature card. I like Black Cat much better in this instance.

I agree with -2 Fervor -2 Dragon Hatchling , but I still want dragons. What you are suggesting would take me down by 3. What do you guys think of Furnace Whelp ?

Overall, how about: -2 Fervor -2 Dragon Hatchling +1 Heartless Summoning +3 Ring of Valkas . As for the rest other then the Duress suggestion, I'll think about it :).

Wabbbit says... #16

Or, should I go -3 Black Cat +2 Bonfire of the Damned ?

September 27, 2012 6:52 p.m.

Esmic says... #17

I haven't seen a downside to Bonfire of the Damned yet.

The reasoning behind Duress is to 1 get a look at their hand and see strategy2 remove any playtricks they may have. (how sad would you be if you played your Utvara Hellkite only for it to be Murder ed before you even declare attack?Dragons aren't cheap they take time to get onto the field even with Heartless Summoning It gives your opponent time to build up removal or something.

Wabbbit says... #18

Yeah, as soon as I made the comment above, I thought about it and you guys are right. That plus a few playtests :).

Thanks for all the help and +1's!.

CalciferDK says... #19

no need for the plains anymore it seems:)

i would cut the Moonveil Dragon and one Utvara Hellkite to help your mana base

Have you considered Rakdos Charm and Auger Spree ? utility spells are very often usefull.

this deck is freakin awesome! my only suggestion is maybe a Cavern of Souls or 2 in case you run into some control match-ups and Bonfire of the Damned for sure.

also suggestions for a sideboard (cause you don't have one posted) would be Pillar of Flame for zombies, Magmaquake for land weenies, Rakdos Charm for artifact removal AND reanimater hate, and Pithing Needle cause it's just awesome

Wabbbit says... #22

Yes! Thank you for opening up the discussion for sideboard, poprocksncoke! I think I agree with everything you just said. So, what else should the sideboard include? Not very good at them :/.

Yes, totally agree on Cavern of Souls , going in here for sure.

Thanks, OFABass! I'll take a look at it :).

ughh those Rings! Personally i would get rid of the Rings and the Slumbering Dragons, they are both way to slow. I would replace them with 3x Devil's Play, put in 3x Ferver, take out 3x Duress, and put in 4x Bloodgift Demon. Unless you are trying to keep it casual dragons. I'm a little more a speed competitive guy. thanks for your time, +1

September 28, 2012 2:25 p.m.

Long_Con says... #24

You could use the Slumbering Dragon (or some Hatchlings) as mana ramp with Infernal Plunge to get your big guys out a couple of turns sooner. Not for everyone, but it gets 'em out sooner!

Some RTR ramp artifacts would hasten the dragony beatdown as well.

How it is that you wanna play HUGE creatures and you don't have a place for Rakdos, Lord of Riots? :( maybe with some direct damage with him to activate his amazing skill
