Isperia and Her Hatebirds

Commander / EDH Control WU (Azorius)

D2Toaster

A toolbox deck with Isperia the Inscrutable as the commander.

The crucial thing to make the deck work is to make Isperia's every hit count.

Which means we have to guess right. There are 4 ways to do that:

  1. Peek before combat (Glasses of Urza, Telepathy, Gitaxian Probe, Urza's Bauble)

  2. Bounce (Cyclonic Rift, Into the Roil, Sigil of Sleep)

  3. Double strike (Silverblade Paladin, Duelist's Heritage)

  4. Politic (persuade an opponent to give you a "hint", and you'll help him somehow)

Always go for the opponent with the less chance of having a flying blocker, so you can have a consistent tutoring throughout the game. And since you'll get to see their hands after you hit them, it's no big deal even if you are guessing blind the first time.

Use Mistveil Plains to bring creatures back into your deck so they can be tutored again.

The deck is filled with "solutions" that flies. Being able to see your opponents' hands tells you what solution should be tutored.

Against ETB-heavy decks (for example Brago, King Eternal), go for Hushwing Gryff. This deck runs no creatures with ETBs. Abilities are triggered or activated by sacrificing or Landfall.

Against decks relying on activated abilities of creatures (for example Ezuri, Renegade Leader), search for Linvala, Keeper of Silence.

Against decks heavily relying on the commander (for example Zacama, Primal Calamity), get Voidstone Gargoyle.

Against graveyard-based decks (for example Muldrotha, the Gravetide), tutor for Remorseful Cleric.

Against turtor-heavy control/combo decks (for example Arcum Dagsson), search for Aven Mindcensor.

Against mono-colored decks or if your opponents share a mutual color, get Iona, Shield of Emeria.

Against decks with low CMC curve (for example Edgar Markov), assemble Brisela, Voice of Nightmares.

The rest of the tutor options in the deck are: protection, counters, and removals.

Emrakul, the Promised End also becomes more powerful, since you'll know the right timing to cast her and which opponent to target. And Isperia provides one of the best ways to assemble Brisela, Voice of Nightmares. In some way, this is an Emrakul deck disguised as Azorius,
