First, I’d like to introduce you to our partner generals, Ishai, Ojutai Dragonspeaker and Vial Smasher the Fierce, two commanders that have a divergent presence in the cEDH meta. At 4 cmc and packing a combat-centric trigger, Ishai has been often overlooked as a viable partner from a sheer “advantage” standpoint. Whereas Vail Smasher has been pinpointed as a key component for generating damage and, easily, card advantage at the same time. Although this color combination has popularly manifested itself in the “opus thief” archetype, it presents a lot of potential as consult-control in a reanimator shell. Vial Smasher takes advantage of the high end of the cmc curve while an Ishai, cast as early as turn one, can compound into a fierce combatant to both apply pressure and protect your life total.
This deck has taken cues from many prior reanimate strategies, and seeks to bring many BR-reanimate staples from the legacy format into the cEDH meta; Namely, Sire Of Insanity, however, Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite has been a hallmark of high-power as well as cEDH stax, and a novel, underutilized pregame (and static) effect of the format comes from Chancellor of the Annex, which I argue has a viable place now too. With the luck of an opening 7, or the power of Entomb these creatures can enter the battlefield as early as turn one.
On the surface, Dark Confidant and Azra Oddsmaker are the grinding station of our value engine with Dockside Extortionist present to capitalize on any hefty board states. And while that’s true, I want to highlight Villis, Broker of Blood and the synergy present with something as simple as a pain land. Not only is the presence of an 8/8 flyer unprecedented (save Razaketh), but fetching, pinging, and simply not blocking your opponent’s Tymna turns into card advantage. Villis is the love-child of Ad Nauseam and Necropotence we’ve always wanted.
The aim of this deck is to apply early, consistent pressure with large creatures while generating enough value to set up a consult+oracle or "tainted Jace" win. and give us access to the most powerful counter/redirect spells in the game. and provide the strongest tutors and haymakers, granting power and consistency. The creatures package often doubles as stax in addition to their sheer heft.
Outside the efficient Entomb, the deck's strongest GY lines originate from Intuition. Cards such as Underworld Breach, Sevinne's Reclamation, Wheel of Fortune, and Lion's Eye Diamond can be combined to assemble a powerful win. Having access to so much recursion allows the list to play even symmetrical Chains of Mephistopheles without punishing ourselves too severely.
