I just started playing Zedruu the Greathearted and am looking for some ideas to switch it up. If you could take a look at it, maybe you'll see something that would work well in this deck as well (Needs Help!) Zedruu, the Not-So-Greathearted

Phyrexian Unlife + Form of the Dragon makes you nearly unkillable

jrdnhwll - While I don't see what you mean by that combo, Form of the Dragon is more for throwing at people anyways. Then I can take them out much more easily after either having it removed, or just by using Bronze Bombshell.

if you have both on your side of the field, and someone hits you for say 10, you would be at -5 lifethey would have to damage you with another damage source to start putting infect counters on you through Phyrexian Unlifeand then on the next end step, your life becomes 5 again, so you have to be hit with two different sources of damage again

jrdnhwll - The problem with that is that my meta is all about having tons of creatures. Most games are decided by massive armies and lots of maths. I don't see the appeal of it, honestly.

i run it in my zedruu deck, but we are definitely doing two different things entirely. i'm much more on the pillow fort and combo side

For pure flavor, your deck needs more skeletons (Skeletal Grimace), dogs (Isamaru, Hound of Konda), Goat Dads (Mountain Goat) and murderous fish ladies (Master of the Pearl Trident) (not actually a fish or a lady)

Burila24 - Thanks for the ideas on flavorful adds. Sadly, there are no Skeletons that fit into Zedruu the Greathearted's color identity. I'll have to toss in Isamaru, Hound of Konda for the dog flavor. As far as Fish Warriors go, I'm torn between Harbinger of the Tides and Maritime Guard for a base card.. I'll have to look a bit further into Goats to see how the goat dad's going to end up.

Actually, I really like the looks of Halimar Wavewatch and Veteran of the Depths if I got some art commissioned.

I love the deck.

I am curious for wins/kills if you would run: A. Transcendence if you can cast it, survive, and give away you just kill EDH players.

B. Laboratory Maniac, and Arjun, the Shifting Flame to combo with your Alhammarret's Archive. Draw and cast into win.

Couple of quick questions:

1) I see a lot of Zedruu decks run, Solitary Confinement and I was wondering how well it works out for you? I've been hesitant to add it to my deck because I'm a little skeptical about having to discard cards to keep it online. I'm guessing it's situational?

2) Venser, the Sojourner is in here, Is he worth it?

3) If you had to choose one, would you choose either Lightmine Field , Monastery Siege , or Silent Arbiter?

4) Leyline of Anticipation looks like it would be immensely useful, is it?

Love-in-Theory -

As far as Solitary Confinement goes, it's used because Zedruu doesn't draw on the draw step. If you can keep at least 2 things on other people's fields, you'll play your turn out like normal but be invincible.

Venser, the Sojourner is in there mostly as a panic button. If you find that your opponents are using your things against you, you can use him to get them back to your field. Also it combos real well with Gilded Drake

If I had to choose only one of those, I'd choose Silent Arbiter, but it really depends on the deck you're facing. If they're going to storm you out, Monastery Siege is better. Lightmine Field is really just there to be really obnoxious for token decks to deal with.

Yeah, Leyline of Anticipation or Vedalken Orrery would be great adds.

I bet Chasm Skulker can get really big. You can also donate the little squid friends you get when it dies. (beware of islandwalk!) How useful is it for you? If it turns out to be helpful, I might pick one up. I've been eyeing that, and Phyrexian Unlife

Love-in-Theory - I bet Chasm Skulker really is useful. I haven't really gotten him out yet cause my playgroup hasn't met up in a while. I looked at Phyrexian Unlife and don't really see the appeal. I guess it would save you for about one attack, but it wouldn't really get you back up off the ground ever.

I've only been considering Phyrexian Unlife to pair it with Form of the Dragon. Like a last resort kind of thing. Maybe pair that with a Paradox Haze?

Love-in-Theory - I still feel it'd be a bit of a dead draw most of the time and not as helpful as, say Sphere of Safety in protecting you when you're down.

Viarax - I had it commissioned and spent about 30 minutes photoshopping it onto the card. You can use one of the alter's I uploaded on here if you'd like. I'll have to get someone to properly put it on a card one day.

I'm personally a fan of Zedruu Chaos of sorts. Cards like Possibility Storm and Confusion in the Ranks are hilarious
