Deck Overhaul —Jan. 7, 2020

I've decided to completely rethink the deck after several playtests. It really struggled when I didn't draw the right cards, and too many of the cards in the deck simply did too little. Even worse is when I do get the right cards but eat a removal spell on a key engine piece or enchantment. While that scenario hasn't come up in actual games, I imagine opponents will wise up and start targeting the right things the more they play against the deck.

I needed to add more resiliency and really wanted more cards in the deck to work together. As a result, I took a lot of the disruptive cards out that didn't have much additional utility and added in an aura package for more card advantage. I kept the components that worked well together (wheels, combo pieces, etc.), but added more support cards that get me to the important parts quicker (Heliod's Pilgrim/Boonweaver Giant to setup a card advantage chain; Sage's Reverie and other enchantments with ETB draw stapled on).

So far I'm really enjoying the results with the latest playtests. My deck feels a lot less like it'll crumple to a stiff breeze, and with incoming upgrades from Theros: Beyond Death there are new avenues for insane plays. Idyllic Tutor and Underworld Breach in particular really help speed the deck up and add tremendous late game power. I'm excited to see what else the set has in store!
