A long time ago I tried out a Grixis deck, but it just didn't work. It was too inconsistent. So, I looked at the play-sets of dual lands I had and thought, "Hm, what can I make with this?"
IZZET CONTROL, PHILOSOPHY
Counter, get creatures, swing. It's simple enough. Use Guttersnipe to burn them out, Electromancer to cast your spells easier, and Pyromancer to make chumps.
AEtherling: Once he resolves with at least 7 mana on-board, he's essentially un-killable. An extremely good card with almost no downsides.
Jace, Architect of Thought: Card draw, protects himself, and allows you to bring out both yours and your opponents big guys under your control? Hell yes, please.
Wow, this deck looks great! I understand why Ral Zarek is in here, but I'm not entirely sure if you need him. He's great as a T4 play, but could probably be replaced by another Jace or possibly Niv-Mizzet, depending on your local meta. How has playtesting been going for you?
AzureMage - Thanks! Yeah, I like Ral Zarek because of his -2, mostly, because aside from Burn and Izzet Charm , I don't have any way to deal direct damage with spells. Still, you may be right, there's probably something better than I could throw in there.
As for the playtesting, I haven't had a chance to play it against another deck, but I'm hoping to test it out this Friday.
You do not need 4x Goblin Electromancer You gain very little from having a second one in play since most of your spells can only be reduced by one. I suggest you take out two of them and put 2x Guttersnipe because nothing makes a big pile of counter spells MORE Duchie than dealing damage, and making weenies as you counter everything they try to play. :)
Also clean up your sideboard -
Adding in Izzet Staticaster may be the answer you need to respond to a certain deck type, but if you only have one your chances of getting to use her are pretty low. Remember, you switched to Izzet for consistency, as a general rule don't have less than 2 of any card in your Sideboard.
Wouldn't you agree?
Zacoly - On the Izzet Staticaster . The sideboard was tailored specifically to fit my local meta, and she doesn't really come in handy there. I have her in as a just-in-case. But yeah, normally I'd agree with you, it's pretty good advice to have more than one of most things in the SB.
As for the Goblin Electromancer , I think I will end up taking them out, since most of the people I've shown this deck to seem to be against them.
