The game-plan is to kill my opponents with poison counters, but to not use Infect.

The commander is currently Atraxa. I attempted to make a +1/+1 counter focused Atraxa deck, but it felt too inconsistent and lacked a focus. Though the part of the deck I really enjoyed was proliferate. I like how powerful proliferate can be; since it doesn't target it can only really be prevented by countering.

Q: Why not go full Infect?

A: Three reasons:

  1. I didn't want to do something that has already been done a million times before
  2. I didn't want to feel like I'm sucking enjoyment out of my opponents
  3. I didn't want to have another combat-focused deck (already have Samut, Ezuri and Skullbriar).

Removing Infect from the deck means proliferate becomes more important. Instead of pump spells and cards that give Infect, I have proliferate spells and cards that give poison counters. The deck becomes less aggressive and more defensive.
