Sideboard

Maybeboard

The deck is aggro/tempo, with aim to partialy mill your opponent and deal quite a lot of damage in the process. Because of it's nature this deck is above medium when it comes to difficulty to pilot this deck. So how do you play this deck you ask? Let's take a look:

Creatures:

  • Your main weapons are Jace's Phantasm & Krovikan Mist . Both work in different way and you can't pump them at the same time. But Krovikan Mist gets pumped by Jace's Phantasm and other illusions. So get Krovikan Mist on board as fast as possible, since enemy is more likely to target it before Jace's Phantasm and most of the time Jace's Phantasm is bigger or at best equal to Krovikan Mist , since your opponent will kill some of your creatures.
  • Phantasmal Bear is cheap first turn creature, that will pump Krovikan Mist (well, like every other creature in this deck). It is most likely that if you play against blue or partialy blue deck, it will die to bounce. In this deck it also works as sacrifice for black decks.
  • Dream Stalker has 2 roles in this deck and they are:
    1. Bounce empty Shriekhorn to your hand so you can play it again,
    2. block enemy creatures from attacking you. Very effective against affinity, since most of the creatures deals less then 5 damage and the same applies to Galvanic Blast
  • Fathom Seer is your cheap version of Gush , but in this deck with adventige since it is illusion. Good thing to know about Seer is that if your opponent doesn't counter it, then he/she can't do anything with your draw plan, since morph is instantaneous and it will resolve before your opponent can resolve his/her targeting spell.

Noncreature spells:

  • Brainstorm & Thought Scour are classics of the genre so I will not write about them here.
  • Portent is sort of like Brainstorm but you can look and change order of cards on top of target player's library or shuffle the deck. This gives you chance to use it as weapon against your opponent and slow him down or on yourself if you can't get the cards you need.
  • Ideas Unbound is middle/late game draw spell. Use it when you have empty hand or hand filled with several lands because of the discard effect. At best hope for drawing Portent , since you will draw the card after the discard effect at the beggining of your opponents upkeep. Don't play this card with less then 4 untapped lands otherwise you will most likely dump your cards into bin.
  • Paranoid Delusions use this only if you have creature ready to attack, then cast it and cipher it on that creature. When it deals damage to opponent it Paranoid Delusions will be casted again. You can repeat this until that creature dies, is bounced or flikered.
  • Shriekhorn the main mill component of the deck. As was stated before use Dream Stalker to bounce empty Shriekhorn into your hand. Shriekhorn comes with 3 counters and you can use 1 each turn starting with the turn Shriekhorn came into play. Try to not bounce Shriekhorn with counters unless you really need blocker.
  • Daze is early game counter spell that allows you to bounce island instead of paying its price. So even tho you are tapped out, you can counter spells as long as your opponent can't pay 1 colorless more. In mid/late game this card is almost useless, so be aware of that and watch if your opponent doesn't open him/herself to counter this way.
  • Grisly Spectacle mid/lategame kill spell for nonartifacts and mills cards equal to power of the target.
  • Ghastly Demise cheap kill spell. Make sure you have enough cards in graveyard for it to work. In case of Atog or other pumping creatures make sure that you played every possible card before Ghastly Demise . This way your opponent has to think twice before doing anything. Also combos nice with Ideas Unbound (note: don't discard Ghastly Demise ).
