Welcome to the first of my series on alternate win condition decks! Alternate win-cons are one of my favorite things about Magic because sometimes I don't feel like being mean and I love more than anything to win the game on MY OWN terms. What I have here for you is a decklist that will bring Maze's End into a modern competitive deck that you can feel comfortable bringing to your local FNM to really throw your competition for a loop.

Turbo

  • Howling Mine: Best "turbo" card in the game. I'm pretty sure every Turbo Fog deck runs a playset.
  • Rites of Flourishing: This card really is the bread and butter of the deck. Gives us "turbo", helps play more Gates, and fuels the fire for the Amulet of Vigor + Maze's End combo, allowing you to search for gates and win the game in one turn despite being down two or three gates.
  • Temple Bell: Another card to help provide more card draw. In a deck like this the added utility has little value but the extra card draw is too important to leave it out.

Stayin' Alive

  • Ethereal Haze: Hands-down best "fog" in the game. Protects from combat and noncombat damage.
  • Fog: Where the Turbo Fog deck type got its name!
  • Holy Day: Another useful "fog" for just .
  • Pollen Lullaby: This can potentially be a two-for-one "fog" card. More importantly, it gives you a low key Scry.
  • Riot Control : Helps against Burn decks with the lifegain, otherwise a more expensive "fog" card.
  • Angel's Grace: Helps stop any of the Pact cards (Summoner's Pact, Slaughter Pact, etc.) from being targeted at you, gives you the extra turn you might need to win, but most importantly it stops other people from beating you with THEIR alternate win-cons!
  • Elixir of Immortality: This gets you back any lost Gates to cards like Ghost Quarter or Fulminator Mage, recycles your "fog" cards, and gives you some life to keep on going.

Winning the Game

  • Maze's End: This is your one and only win-con! Work it and work it good!
  • Amulet of Vigor: The playset of this card glues the ENTIRE deck together. This is the one and only card that makes this deck competitive. See below for an explanation of the card interactions.

How to Play

  • If Amulet of Vigor is not in your opening hand, consider taking the mulligan unless you see a couple basic lands, "turbo" cards, and "fog" cards.
  • Play with the mindset of after turn 3 or 4, you will need to play a "fog" card every single turn until you win the game. Make sure you set yourself up in the early turns to do this with "turbo" cards and lands.
  • With a decent amount of lands on the battlefield, Rites of Flourishing, Amulet of Vigor, and one Maze's End, you can start your "turns to win the game" mental counter. For example, with one Rites of Flourishing, you can play Maze's End twice using its ability, which tutors two Gates for you. With more than one Rites of Flourishing you can usually win the game the moment you complete the combo and tutor for two to three Gates to win.

Feedback and comments are MUCH appreciated! I've done a lot of preliminary playtesting but if anyone wants to see replays from Cockatrice against my friends playing Tier 1 modern decks, let me know and I'll post in the description! I also need sideboard help!
