Lantern, Bogles, & More! —Oct. 27, 2019

My wife & I went over to a close family friend's house & began testing the deck further. There it was tested against lantern control, bogles, & a reaper king combo homebrew not to mention another round with my wife's ETron. Against Lantern control my Exile deck preformed about as expected they were annoying matches honestly that were long & grueling. I was able to continually take away Lantern's pieces regardless of Lantern being the pain that it is. The easiest way to beat lantern is to mill it out since it mills itself already. Every game was pretty much the same out of 6 games I was able to win 4 & lantern beat me twice. If anyone has any other questions about this match up let me know I am an experienced Lantern player so I would be able to give insight on playing against my Exile deck as well. The Reaper King combo is just what it sounds like infinite destruction of all enemy permanents. It ramps into a Reaper King turn 3-4 consistently. I can ask my friend to see if he will put it on the site & if he does I will put a link to it in this story. We played a total of 5 games with my deck edging out the Reaper Combo 3-2. The reaper deck has a lot of big creatures so even if the combo never goes off three 5 power creatures swinging in at you hurts quite a bit especially when the deck has many ways to protect his creatures. The only way I was able to win is I was able to consistently Exile all of his reaper kings & killing the creatures that he tried to champion away. If my deck was unable to do either of those things it lost rather quickly to his large creatures & combo. Against Bogles is where I found my deck lacking so much so it made me wish that I ran 2 Diabolic Edict in the mainboard. Bogles ran over me time & again in 8 matches I was only able to pull off 2 close wins bogles make threats that my deck is almost helpless against so quickly that my deck was merely able to counter the best aruas bogles had, but even a 3/3 left alone wins the game after a few turns. Bogles is a deck that my friend is known for, but no one else in my play group or FNM play. I have seen Bogles start to make a comeback though so it will be something that I keep an eye on & something that I may just leave as a poor match up as of right now. Against my wife's ETron we played another 6 games where her ETron came out on top winning 4 out of the 6 matches leaving our record so far at ETron 10 wins I Walk the Line of Perfect Symmetry 8. All & all I'm still quite proud of my deck being able to handle a broad range of decks comfortably & stopping combo decks nearly every time it faces them. One concern of mine would be Bogles & I would like to ask for other players insight on this. Do you believe that I should leave the deck as is or should I view Bogles as a big enough threat in the meta as a whole that I look to run 1-3 Diabolic Edict or would something else be a better choice? Please give me your opinions & thank you all very much for your time! One the 1st of November I will be able to attend my local FNM & I will be sure to give you all the details from the night then.

I think you've got a really solid deck here but I'd go with 2 Visions of Beyond and drop Into the Story personally. I feel like it'd be a more viable emergency play with snapcaster and getting 20 in the yard isn't as hard now with the increased consistency from scheming symmetry. I really love the integration of green you have going on. Good job.

Thank you very much! I feel that you may be right I in a since lose one draw but save 3 mana. That seems like the only real logic thing to do after all if someone did use rest in peace it's either I spend 7 mana for 4 cards or 1 mana for 1 card neither of which is good, but 1 for 1 is a better trade I feel. Thanks again!

I have been contemplating dropping my Astrolabes, but I haven't been able to make up my mind honestly. If anyone has any good ideas on what to substitute into those 3 places please let me know!

If you really want to drop the astrolabes, I'd personally go up to 4 Visions and add another mainboard Trophy since it works really well with Archive Trap. Or if you don't want to go up to 4 Visions, going up to 3 and filling out the playset of drown wouldn't hurt.

Serum Visions is a great card & more card draw to replace card draw does sound like a good idea. I was originally thinking of thoughtseize, but serum Visions could be more useful for what I want. Thank you again Gim!

I was referring to Visions of Beyond but Serum Visions is also some good card draw without having to worry about their grave.

That was my bad lol. Going up atleast one more Visions of beyond would be worth it so long as I do get rid of the Astrolabes.

I'd move the Okos to the MD and put one of the Pulses to the side. Oko can gain life while still being a removal spell for a large threat or creature. I'd also consider ditching the beatdown plan (Tasigurs) in favor of running Ensnaring Bridge to help against other creature decks. It might be better to choose one plan or the other (mill or beats) and try to do that each game. Looks like a fun list though!

GeminiSpartanX thank you for the insight! I have been going back & forth on Oko being main or not & I definitely feel that it's worth trying. As for the ensnaring bridges in my old list I ran them, the deck had less overall card draw & counterspells. The reason I chose Tasigar is due to UW Control honestly. UW Control runs a control package then has their big threats generally planeswalkers yes, but they also run angels. I felt that Tasiger fit that role as well as let me bring back relevant spells to my hand. I will admit that Tasigur hasn't been very useful in the deck though so I have been thinking of replacing him. Thank you very much for your input though I really appreciate all the help that I can get!

Hmmm, You don't seem to have very much mill, and a lot of cards in graveyard/exile graveyard effects. Is that really enough mill?

I would probably add a Glimpse the Unthinkable or two, but maybe your mill suite is doing fine?

Flooremoji thank you for the interest! This deck isn't your traditional mill deck lol it wasn't even built with mill in mind infact. It's just Scheming Symmetry & Archive Trap work together so well mill just became a secondary win condition. In older versions of the deck I ran anywhere from 1-4 Glimpse the Unthinkable & they worked well up until Scheming Symmetry was printed anyways Symmetry took over it's spot & I have never looked back honestly. I have thought of a single copy sideboard though pending on the match up it could be good. Thank you very much for taking time to check out my deck!

itachi45 Thank you for the interest in my deck! Veil of Summer is an issue for me I can't deny that one lol. Although most decks I have come across only run 2 in the sideboard so it has never been too big an issue for me to muscle past. If they continue growing in popularity & I start seeing more or them I may need to adjust, but in all honesty if a card gives me a problem once I Exile the rest of them so I no longer need to deal with the issue. I do agree with you on the snow sub theme of the deck in all honesty. My two pet cards are Ice-Fang Coatl & Scheming Symmetry trying to have them in one deck feels a little much especially when I can do better for this sultai list. So in the coming days/weeks this deck may see a change away from snow. Now as for the two match ups you brought up the deck actually does quite well! Against U/W Control it is actually a pretty even match up but one where I give my deck a slight advantage especially as the game goes on. Everytime they counter one of my spells if it is a 4 of in their deck I surgical all of them away. The match is very favorable towards this deck. Now for Amulet Titan. The match up isn't even fair towards them my deck tears through them just like it did to the Phoenix & Hoogaak decks. My deck is designed to Exile all relevant cards so any form of combo deck is shut down pretty hard this deck even does well stopping tron from forming tron! I target the Amulet & prime time after that Amulet titan is primarily ramp & search spells. All but one time that I have faced Amulet Titan I have beaten them handily. Thanks again for your interest in the deck & bringing concerns to my attention!
