I generally fight a lot of token decks in my play group. Recently, I've noticed a few people in my group starting to make "pain" decks. I've seen a Mogis, and a Kaervek these past few days. As I talked with them about why they pick their commanders I realized that too many people undersell what mono-black is capable of. We don't have Artifact/Enchantment/Aura removal, but we have nearly everything else (not necessarily in spade). So I decided to make one of these "pain" decks using a mono-black commander. I debated for a few days over who to make it in (Seizan for speed, Obi for anti-search/beatstick) but then I remembered one of my favorite gods. I looked at him, and I almost immediately had an image of the deck I wanted: No creatures on the field minus my own, Lifegain enough that I can draw 4 every turn (after turn 4), a mass amount of mana just in case I feel paranoid that day, and a 5/7 beatstick that I can just shove down peoples throats. Most people feel too scared when they don't have a lot of creatures, few feel calm when they have nothing to block with and a literal god is coming for their lives. I miss this color, sometimes. I really am glad to go back to my mono-colored roots.
