Gerrard, Weatherlight Hero budget combo

I really like the Boros colours, but the options for commanders are limited: You either have the overrated Feather, the Redeemed or turds that grant no ramp or card draw. This changed in C19 with Gerrard, Weatherlight Hero. Instead of being another linear combat step commander like the others in Boros, Gerrard supports artefacts, wraths and reanimation with excellent combo potentiel. This is a deck around a popular Gerrard combo but on a 100ish $ budget that aims to create infinte mana, infinite tokens, draw your library, gain infinite life, ping for infinite damage or mill your opponents out.

The basic combo revolves around 6 basic pieces: An artefact sacrificer, mana rocks, Gerrard, Weatherlight Hero, something with either an ETB or death trigger, a Gerrad sac outlet and most importantly, a Gerrard recurer, that we will call a GR. This may seem like a lot of pieces to coordinate but many cards in the deck can act like multiple pieces.

  1. Tap down your mana rocks to float any amount of mana depending on your GR or your sac outlets.
  2. Sac all your mana rocks to the artefact sac outlet.
  3. Sac Gerrard to a Gerrard sac outlet.
  4. In response to his exile trigger, pay to use a GR and bring him back to the battlefield using the floating mana from the mana rocks.
  5. Gerrard will bring back all the mana rocks with his trigger
  6. Go back to step 1
You can do this an infinite amount of times. If you have something with an ETB or death trigger that you can sack at the same time as Gerrard, you can have an infinite amount of ETB or death triggers. If you cannot go infinite, it doesn’t matter. Only doing 2 or 3 cycles of the combo will grant you enough card draw or ping to find what you need or to take down a threat.
Being able to repeatedly recur Gerrard is the most important thing but there aren’t a ton of these effects especially on a budget. We need a certain amount of mana in mana rocks to opperate everyone of the GRs. The most efficent of which is Nim Deathmantle that needs only 4 colourless mana per combo cycle. Next we have Salvager of Ruin that need 2 colourless, 1 white and 1 red to recast Gerrard that’ll bring back the Salvager of Ruin with his trigger. Then we have Sigil of the New Dawn that needs 1 colourless and 1 white for its ability and Gerrard, Weatherlight Hero mana cost. Finally, we have Codex Shredder if we’re out of options needing a whopping 9 mana total to sac it and recast Gerrard. We don’t have a lot so we’re running some tutors to find them if we fail to have them in our opening hand. Tutoring is limited in Boros and on a budget so our methods are rather conditional
Eggs, being canttrippy artefacts that you can sack for a trigger will be able to fit 2 or 3 of our pieces in a deck: They are artefact sac outlets bein able to sack themselves, they have ETB or death triggers and sometimes are even mana rocks. They are very versatile so we want to run a quite a few. The textbook example is Chromatic Sphere. You can use the 1 mana it creates to pay for it’s ability when it is recurred, meaning basically you draw cards indefinitely with the combo set up. Other eggs that’ll make you draw indefinitely are: Drawing your library is nice but paired with infinite mana, you can essentially do anything. So here are some eggs that’ll do exactly that: Our mana rocks will do most of the infinite mana but extra will be even better and more reliable. Now repeatable pinging, healing or tokens will be what closes out games so we’re running eggs that can do exactly that;
The way we get mana most of the time for each combo cycle is through the recurrence of mana rocks. So we want mana rocks that can:
  • Tap for both our colours to pay for the GRs and to recast Gerrard
  • To enter the battlefield untapped so we can use them when recurred
  • To tap for enough mana to operate any GR
  • Can sack themselves if we lack artefact sacking or card draw
So cards like Boros Locket or Boros Cluestone are great in this deck because it meets most of the requirements to go infinite. Cards like Hedron Archive or Dreamstone Hedron won’t tap for our colours but can produce tons of colourless to support our more expensive GRs. What is neat is that if we have at least 1 extra mana than we need with our mana rocks, that extra gloating mana will accumulate per cycle generating infinite mana. BONUS: Artefacts lands like Ancient Den, Darksteel Citadel and Great Furnace can be sacked and recurred just like mana rocks. WARNING: Don’t kill yourself with Talisman of Conviction. It’s not worth it for the coloured mana.
We need to sacrifice our mana rocks for the combo. So we´re running free sacrifice outlets that can be reused over and over again and that are on cheap bodies. For the most part we don’t care about their triggers we just want free sac outlets. Though Krak-Clan Shaman can wipe the board and kill Gerrard without a creature sac outlet, Ravenous Intruder can become infinitely big and Slobad, Goblin Tinkerer can protect our board. We have other sac outlets that cost mana this time: They may cost mana but it is definitely worth it because Makeshift Munitions can not only infinitely ping and Claws of Gix costs 0 and can give indefinite life but they can also sac Gerrard. Goblin Engineer is not really for combos just for getting back some of our best artefacts and tutoring. Finally we have Kuldotha Forgemaster that can only sac 3 artefacts at a time but definitely makes up for it with his ability to tutor straight to the battlefield, possibly indefinitely if we manage to pull off the combo.
Sadly, Gerrard must fall for the good of the combo. Like for the artefacts, we want free, cheap and reusable sac outlets. This time, their effects are significant: - Infinite mana: - Infinte Damage: - Infinite Mill: This will close out games without the need of ETB and sac triggers. Speaking of which...
These are the cards you want to play once you have infinite mana and draw. They will have a trigger everytime a creature enters or leaves the battlefield which means that with the combo there will be infinite triggers! - Infinite Damage: - Infinite Mill BONUS: If you sac and recur Priest of Urabrask along side Gerrard, boom infinite mana.
The draw spells in this deck also discards cards that you can actually get back if you play and sac Gerrard that same turn.Tamiyo's Journal, Ring of 3 wishes and Open the Armory are especially excellent being able to tutor for any card or a GR at least.
Basic Boros removal. Use Dispatch to exile threats and never to tap them down. Lapse of Certainty can help us if someone tries to stop us mid combo. Nothing too special.
Gerrard, Weatherlight Hero is the ultimate board wipe tribal commander because he can bring everyone back afterwards. So we’re running a few destroying or exiling both artefacts and creatures. BONUS: If you have infinite tokens, you can get infinte life with Fumigate and a infinitely powerful token with Phyrexian Rebirth.
If Gerrard gets stolen, or if our graveyard is exiled with all our combo pieces in it or whatever that can stop us from performing the combo, we can still try to win with Karmic Guide, Reveillark and a sac outlet. Here is the combo:
  1. Sac Karmic Guide
  2. Sac Reveillark
  3. Reveillark brings back Karmic Guide with its death trigger
  4. Karmic Guide enters the battlefield and brings back Reveillark
  5. Go back to step 1
  6. With infinite ETBs and sac triggers we could use all the card we love in this deck to win just like with Gerrard!

All suggestions are welcome **UNLESS THEY ARE OUT OF BUDGET I AM SICK OF PEOPLE SAYING « Add EmRaKuL and MaNa cRyPt » SO PLEASE EldraziFanBoy04 STOP SAYING THAT ON EVERYONE OF MY DECKS!
