Maybeboard

Version 4: Azami Competitive.

Couple of personal twists on the 'classic' Azami build.

Win-Cons:

1: Laboratory Maniac + Mind Over Matter + Azami, Lady of Scrolls - obvious choice is obvious

2: Psychosis Crawler + Mind Over Matter + Azami, Lady of Scrolls - excepting for life totals of higher than say 50 this will drop everyone else to 0. Fast. [Moved to Maybeboard as this is a sub-par option most times.]

3: Isochron Scepter (Imprint: Dramatic Reversal ) + Azami, Lady of Scrolls + Sol Ring + Eye of Ramos -or- Gilded Lotus (you need at least 1 U available to cast Laboratory Maniac if it's not already in play).

4: Knowledge Pool + Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir - Who said anyone else was allowed to play this game. It's a hard lock that, unless they have something on the board before you drop in both pieces (which you will be aware of), they cannot get out of unless you break the lock.

5: Bribery - IF you get it early and IF you can grab something like Ulamog/Blighsteel Collossus/etc.

6: Acquire - Much like (5) however if combined with Isochron Scepter (Imprint: Dramatic Reversal ) + Thran Dynamo and you can grab someone's Staff of Domination you can drink the tears of your victim using there own cards.

How you play this thing:

You want to hit 5 mana, then look at the table and see if you need to hold a counterspell or not? If Yes - wait, play something cheap and durdle for a turn keeping counter-mana open. If not - drop in Azami and start drawing your deck until you hit a win-con of some description or other. Or drop in Teferi and continue to setup with practical impunity on your turns. Once you get the tempo going you want to hold onto it. In any case your goal is to protect your board with the counters, don't start trying to counter other players unless you absolutely have to. You see an Armageddon you think long and hard about if you can survive it or not. Just because you have a handful of answers doesn't mean you need to use them against everyone else at the table. If someone's playing stax, fine - you're paying an extra 1 for things (maybe not with Stonybrook Banneret or Sapphire Medallion ) but so is everybody else, which slows the game down for you to continue your tempo.

Certain decks will take issue with you, mainly because you've gone mono-blue and will have a 'draw-go' turn for a lot of the game. Anyone playing Jhoira of the Ghitu will hate you for dropping in Teferi. Void Shatter and Dissipate to permanently remove troublesome cards ( Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker , Mind Over Matter , Mikaeus, the Unhallowed , etc) will get you thanked and probably hated on in equal measure.

Final Thoughts: You're playing mono-Blue, you're not here to make friends.
