My attempt at modern humans. Feels a bit like merfolk, but with differences:

• Smoother start. Having an on-tribe mana dork Avacyn's Pilgrim offers at least something for those games where aehter vial isn't on the opening hand.

• No evasion.

but I'm missing something disruptive, perhaps... somehow to survive a turn 2 or 3 Pyroclasm/Anger of the Gods. But I do like the christmasland calculation for this deck (on the draw):

Turn 1: Temple Garden, Aether Vial

turn 2: Mutavault, Metallic Mimic, Avacyn's Pilgrim from vial (4 power in play, plus manland)

turn 3: Forest, Hardened Scales, Champion of the Parish, Gather the Townsfolk, vial a Thalia's Lieutenant . By now, Champion of the Parish is a 9/9, the two tokens from Gather the Townsfolk are 5/5, and Thalia's Lieutenant along with Avacyn's Pilgrim are 3/3 (25 power on table, plus a mutavault - so, do you have that sweeper or not?).
