Horde of Notions EDH (Elemental Tribal)

Commander / EDH* Casual Five Color Tribal

One of my first starter decks I ever had was the 5-Color Lorwyn elemental deck (). I loved playing that deck back in the day, but a lot of the cards are just sitting around, collecting dust at this point. So I felt like doing a fun Elemental Tribal deck with Horde of Notions at the head. I initially thought the deck would just turn out to be janky, 5-color nonsense, but I ended up with a pretty fun deck with a lot of synergies between the cards, that can start generating a lot of value once it gets going. (Note: I tried to keep the manabase relatively budget. You can upgrade it to suit your needs and budget)

The goal is to accumulate a lot of value with ETBs and swing in with your large Elementals.

Early game you want to just ramp and get to 5 colors as quickly as possible. Smokebraider can technically allow you to cast your commander on turn 3. It's essentialy this deck's Sol Ring, except it actually makes colored mana! I sometimes play Flamekin Harbinger out turn 1 just so I can get Smokebraider down on turn 2.

You don't necessarily need to play Horde as soon as possible though, you can wait until you already have dumped some of your elementals into your graveyard. You can use cards like Buried Alive, Final Parting and Jarad's Orders to tutor out specific elementals into your graveyard. The most obvious tutor target will usually be Maelstrom Wanderer. In fact, I guess you could call this more or less a hidden Maelstrom Wanderer deck, as it will start generating you so much value once you can repeatedly dump it into your graveyard. Maelstrom Wanderer is the top of the manacurve, meaning you can pretty much cast any spell you reveal while cascading.

Doomgape and Maelstrom Wanderer are a pretty sweet combo in this deck. You can sac the Wanderer to Doomgape's trigger durinh your upkeep, then recast it using Horde to get another two cascades.

What's great is that Horde of Notions lets you CAST your creatures, meaning you will benefit from cast triggers like Cascade (cough Maelstrom Wanderer cough) or artifacts like Door of Destinies, Zendikar Resurgent and Vanquisher's Banner. And once you get Panharmonicon on the battlefield, your Elementals will really start to go off.

Bloom Tender is probably the most expensive card in this deck and also one of the only non-elemental cards, but it's well worth it. With your commander out, it taps for 5 mana and lets you immediatly use Horde's ability.

Again, this deck is pretty casual. Obviously one of the first things to look at would be the manabase, as it's really slow right now. If you want to really take this deck to overdrive, you could consider adding more sac outlets like Phyrexian Altar or maybe Altar of Dementia to get your elementals back to your graveyard more reliably. Then maybe also a Seedborne Muse to start abusing triggers on everyone else's turn.

Probably not the strongest deck ever, but it's still one of my favorite decks, currently. It's just super fun to play and get so much value from your elementals.
