FNM First Taste of Battle —June 16, 2018

I had a great time last night playing with @tony2zmax and @Naj187.

Match 1: R/G Spells and Stuff?? It was a young man who was still very new to the game and his first FNM. We had fun but it was mostly me helping him learn the rules. A noble start for the knights...2-0

Match 2: BW Control: It was an interesting build, he played Gifted Aetherborns and used Lost Legacy to remove all my History of Benalia. It was really unique but I think it had too many moving parts trying to do too many different things, not consistent...2-0

Match 3: Esper Control: My first time playing against Xander, I was scared. Game 1 he never got more than 3 lands and I ran well so I outpaced him in the mid-late game easily. Game 2 he got the lands he needed but too many this time. I really think I got lucky with his mana problems and didn’t get to see the deck really perform. I look forward to a rematch...2-0.

Match 4: Red Deck Wins: I’m feeling awesome at this point going 3-0 with a homebrew tribal deck on its first night...then I see mono red. He starts off with a perfect curve going first Bomat Courier, Earthshaker Khenra, Goblin Chainwhirler, Hazoret the Fervent. I can’t keep up with it and he ends up killing me with hazoret’s ability. Game 2 I start off with an okay hand but he starts with Soul-Scar Mage x2 and then the chainwhirler. Seal Away was amazing against hazoret, but he played 3 of them. We go back and fourth killing creatures and adding pressure until we’re both at 6 health and I’m able to get my damage through for leathal. Game 3 last game, last round. He starts of decent but only got two lands for most of the game, I started off good and had good draws but we went to time in the round on about turn 2. I would have easily beat him if I just had more time, but it was mostly my fault since I took so long to decide things in our first game. I had a great time playing against him and he was very nice, my favorite match of the night and I look forward to a rematch...1-1-1

Final Result: 3-0-1. Amazing first run! But not the best test since I felt like some matchups didn’t provide enough challenge. My strengths seem to be flexibility and resilience. Weakness is of course mass removal. Not sure what changes need to be done but it gave me the confidence to really work on the deck to make it as good as possible.

Ooh, love it! I'm making a similar deck. Take a look at it, and add what you from it to your deck: Black/White Huge Damage Combo Deck!

What is the point of running Danitha when you don't have any auras and equipments to get value from?

@Talltail She’s definitely not necessary at all and I’ll probably take her out but 3cmc for a 2/2 with three abilities that’s also a Knight is good enough to deserve a spot.

With very few black permanents, is Knight of Grace a good fit in this deck? Just curious how you've seen it play out. Love the deck, +1 from me!

@FlyingSeaMonkeyOfDeath I’ve been considering trying to add black permanents to help but nothing right now seems worth it. It’s still a great card without a black permanent but hopefully the next set will bring something good to help out. This deck is very solid from just Dominaria so it should only get better!

Looks good. I think Danitha is definitely the card that's out of place, given the lack of equipment and auras. If it were me I'd probably drop Danitha, Kwende, and 1 Angel of Sanctions for 3x Metallic Mimic to get your curve down a bit and have more on the field for your Histories.

How have the Shalai's worked out? Seem like a good answer to Settle the Wreckage. Blood Crazed Paladin is another good Settle answer.

@corboman I totally agree with you there. I'm gonna start trading for mimics and see how they work in this.

Shalai has been amazing. Her, then Angel of Sanctions the next turn is great and Dauntless Bodyguard to protect Shalai gives my opponent a headache. Her answering settle is huge but Bloodcrazed Paladin won't help since they get exiled, not die. Thank you for the suggestions!

Ah, you're right. Bloodcrazed only helps against fumigate - my bad.
