Sideboard

My redneck father once told me, "Son, just remember: hollow threats won't solve any problems, but hollow points sure will". This deck is a lot more expensive than a box and we will be blowing plenty of minds.

The typical deck revolves around discarding cards to cheat Hollow One into play. Once this boss is in play, we can cheat Flamewake Phoenix out of our graveyard. While digging for these components, we are relying on Flameblade Adept to sneak in damage. And with full graveyards, we can cheaply cast Gurmag Angler. It's a simple strategy that will wreck in game one. However, once our opponents bring in graveyard hate and artifact hate we will get our cheeks clapped. That is why I have made modifications to the main and side board to make this deck more resilient in the Pioneer format.

First, we are throwing Deathrite Shaman into the main board. This provides extra utility out of the spells we are discarding while we get set up for the win. Fiend Artisan is also included to help bring out a Deathrite Shaman or Flameblade Adept to stall for time. I know what you are thinking, "Mr. Faq, this is neat and all. But how does this save our Hollow One and Flamewake Phoenix?" Well, here is the thing: they can't destroy these creatures in game two because we are removing them completely. Since our opponents' will be bringing in sideboard cards and likely removing creature removal, we are going to catch them with their pants down by swapping these cards out for Glint-Horn Buccaneer and Lotleth Troll. This makes our deck less reliant on our graveyard, meaning graveyard hate means nothing to us. And since these cards are discard outlets, we can now remove copies of Cathartic Reunion and/or Thrill of Possibility for removal spells in the sideboard. Even though we are still keeping some cards that are tied to the graveyard, we are shifting gears towards more of a discard synergy deck. Between Deathrite Shaman and Glint-Horn Buccaneer, we will gradually whittle down the enemy's health. And since we will be running low on cards, we can count on Hazoret the Fervent to do some serious cheek clapping.
