It's got legs!

2-1 Jeskai Control twice (This was about a week ago so don't remember the details)

Some results from trice tonight:

  • Mono-red phoenix (0-2):

    • G1: This took me by surprise as at first, I thought I was playing a weird version of burn.
    • G2: I overcorrected when I side boarded in for my mistake in G1 and ended up with dead cards in hand, (Against this matchup don't bring in both leyline AND surgical, just one of them is fine)
  • Goblin aggro (2-1)

    • G1: Hexdrinker is a workhorse. Tossing it mana while holding one open to play push proved to be a very good play. He quickly set the game on a 3 turn clock shortly after, as maelstrom pulse cleared blockers and then he went to 6/6 progenitus mode after.
    • G2: I misplayed on this game and lost. I let a Goblin Instigator hit me in the face without understanding how it fully worked or what the goblins were capable of. Never making that mistake again.
    • G3: Classic Rock hand with a T2 bob that was instantly bounced and replayed by Stingscourger . Followed that by a t4 Plague Engineer and cleared the board of a Goblin Matron and a Munitions Expert . I have to say, that card basically put a massive stax on the entire goblin deck. Very impressive the kind of work that Plague Engineer puts in. Bob was removed and I closed with just the engineer and some man lands. I had damnation in my hand as a backup but it was not needed :)

The entry above should have read Warren Instigator not Goblin Instigator .

Will test further today!

Thoughts about Unearth in the maindeck? GY hate is usually boarded in game 2 so I think it's very strong to bring back hexdrinker/goyf that has eaten a removal early game.

I personally like unearth a lot. In testing with a Dreadhorde Arcanist deck I made, I found its really good. Never had problems with GY hate because it cycles, and with the lower curve, it hits almost all the creatures in your deck, including sideboard cards, which can be huge.

Hello all! Thanks for the suggestions!

I did see a few playlists playing 1 or 2x of Unearth along with 2 or 3x Dreadhorde Arcanist . I love both cards (and have playsets of both), and I think in jund shells it makes sense (the arcanist is basically a red snap but slower). I can see the card mainly being useful in mirrors, other midrange decks like GDS (I'm not sure it would help much there in a shell like this I think it fits jund better) and against control (But against control, Choke does better)

I'll add it to the maybe board since I like the card, I'm just not sure what would be proper to cut.

If Hexdrinker doesn't eat the bolt/path/push he basically wins the game but so far, no one is removing him (I think they are waiting for bobs or goyfs without understanding how badass drinker is), and I haven't ever had much need for recursion in gb since normally we can see what we're playing into with IoK or TS.

Hi saturn999 Yes the drinker, some lands and some of the SB is not on the traditional side, the shell is still pretty much on point.

I am working on something a bit more personal in the infect area, I have a DL about to go public today that I really like (bant infect).

Thank you and everyone else for the comments and votes!

POST Hogaak ban, removing leylines and adding 1x FM, 1x Kalitas and 1x Surgical as a gy versatility package as opposed to hardcore gy hate like leyline. Dredge is not very big in my meta and phoenix is not a hard matchup (chokes help).

Will test this config for a bit and see how hogaak stabilizes after ban.

Ok, so post ban, this list kicks ass. So far, it's worked against Azorious control, mono red & Izzet phoenix, RDW, and a few others. The drinker really is a superstar in this deck, and the plague engineers drastically help our matchups against pure aggro.

I feel like this is a super stable list, that is much grindier and less explosive than it's current cousin Jund with better matchups against Tron and Valakut, but less favorable mirror and jund matchups.

W&6 looks very fun though, and since I have a playset I will also update my jund list with the latest and greatest and test it out.
