Sideboard

This is my own iteration of Mono Red Heroic. I've just recently started playing pauper but I have been playing magic, mainly EDH but a bit of everything, for about 3 years. At this time (February 17th, 2017) I feel like the deck has been optimized to a reasonable level. I am still not sure where it stands in the current meta but it feels very powerful. I have about a 55% winrate but I feel like it could be much higher if piloted by someone who understands pauper much more than myself.

There likely isn't much merit to running this deck over Mono Red Burn if you're trying to be competitive. With that said, this deck does have very explosive wins every now and then and in goldfishing does have extremely consistent turn 4 wins with a few turn 3 and turn 5 wins.

Game plan is pretty simple, but can be somewhat harder than a normal mono red deck. Timing your buffs right takes some knowledge of the stack and priority. It's also good to note in some match ups you will almost play like a combo deck, in the sense that you wanna just stay stabilized until you can "go off" with fiends, battle rages, lightning, etc. A similar but much more aggresive list could include Mage-Ring Bully and maybe Infectious Bloodlust but I prefer to have the option to keep my creatures back.

Let's start with a rundown of what I view as the "main" cards of the deck. The ones that are almost always 3 to 4-ofs and very rarely sided out. We will start with the most important and go down.

Temur Battle Rage The main reason to play this deck. Double strike is obviously powerful and it's difficult to not get the trample effect in this deck, which is also insane considering the amount of damage going through, even bigger creatures don't do anything by blocking it.

Kiln Fiend 99% sure the fiend is just as important as battle rage, as they go hand in hand with eachother, as well as the fiend having synergy with almost every other card in the deck.

Lightning Bolt Pretty self explanatory. Burn, removal, etc. Almost every red deck plays it as a 4-of, you should know why.

Satyr Hoplite The better of our 2 heroic creatures. Since it can keep growing it can likely live through an entire game when played on turn 1, giving us constant board presence.

Akroan Crusader Very powerful but not as good as hoplite because 1 creature is easier to protect than 3 or 4, and we normally want 1 big hitter, not a bunch of small ones, but it's still good and can be great in certain matchups.

Mutagenic Growth practically free +2/+2 to a creature is pretty powerful, especially in a deck like this. Give us insane explosive potential early game, since, you know, it's free.

Titan's Strength Cheap and powerful buff spell, and the scry is extremely relevant for smoothing out or plays if we can't get an early win.

Apostle's Blessing Protection is important. Can make a creature unblockable in some situations or protect them from removal, which is extremely important with only 16 creatures in the entire deck.

Now let's go over our less important choices, in no particular order. (These are basically all the cards I'm still testing to find out if they are worth running over something else.)

Sanguinary Mage Great card, fits the deck very well. Was running Immolating Souleater when I first came across the deck but that cards is just bad, at least in this deck.

Reckless Charge Haste can be relevant, but mainly use this card for +3/+0 and its recurability.

Brute Strength Another very powerful buff spell but this one can help protect creatures if they're blocked or if hit with certain removal like Lightning Bolt.

Chain Lightning Provides the deck a lot of reach potential and removal, and will likely not be taken out, but could be considered if something better pops up.

Manamorphose Technically free cycle and can let us cast cards like mutagenic growth and apostle's blessing without paying life if relevant. There is probably something better to run but I like it as a 1-of.

And now for the sideboard (obviously very meta dependent, you should build your own if you know what you're going up against.)

Hammerhand As we know haste can be relevant, as well as shutting down a blocker against creature heavy decks.

Electrickery Anti-token card, spell explanatory.

Pyroblast Look at me, I am the blue mage now.

Smash to Smithereens Artifacts are very powerful, a small part of me think this should be in the mainboard.

Molten Rain Keeps tron in check, but could also be used against Utopia Sprawl and Abundant Growth Decks.

Flaring Pain Just a 1 of for the rare situation opponent has a CoP: Red and my method of winning is going to revolve around one big attack, or if they can generate a lot of mana.

That should cover most of it, the deck is still being tested and will probably change daily. I am somewhat new to pauper so if you have any suggestions, advice, or wanna point out something I said that makes it obvious I am new to pauper, please feel free! I will take any and all help.

Thank you so much for taking a look!
