FNM 11.16.12 -- Placed 3rd!! —Nov. 17, 2012

Played at my local fnm last night and placed 3rd out of 17.

Before the FNM I made the following changes:

-3 Titanic Growth -2 Blessings of Nature +4 Ranger's Guile +1 Revenge of the Hunted

I added the Ranger's Guile for protection from the heavy removal/burn spells in my meta. The deck did very well and I was pleased with the results. The only game I lost was to a Jund deck but I had to mull to 4 the first game and I kept one mana lands both games (super bad idea, btw). Other than that I feel good about this deck's potential.

-3 Druids Familiar

-3 Titanic Growth

-3 Revive

-2 Blessings of Nature

-1 Garruk

+1 Rancor

+2 Wolfir Silverheart

+2 Elvish Visonary

+3 Increasing Savagery

+4 Giant Growth

Add Increasing Savagery , maybe replace the Blessings of Nature with them. Increasing Savagery is so good, it has helped me win multiple times. Blessings of Nature is good, but I like Savagery better.

In any case, +1! : )

@EpeeAssassin: I've made some of the changes you proposed and it has helped quite a bit!

@AncientDragon999: I did replace the Blessings of Nature with Increasing Savagery and it does make a pretty big difference.

Thanks!

Cool deck, +1. I really like the concept and the synergy of the cards here, its also not too expensive, which is nice. I would like to try this at FNM, so I hope you don't mind if I make my own version! ;D (of course I will mention you as creator of the idea)

i love Hunger of the Howlpack in those kind of deck

@brballer42: I use to have 3x Predator Ooze in here but that card sort of did it's own thing. It just didn't contribute to deck and game plan so I had to take it out.

@Hidden_Blade: Thanks! And sure, make your own version! Maybe put a link to it here so I can see it :]

@koopinette: I tried Hunger of the Howlpack in this deck but Increasing Savagery just works a lot better. Sure, it has a higher CMC but it fits the mana curve better and provides five counters instead of just one. (And I don't intend on having many creatures die which wouldn't trigger it's morbid ability..)

Here it is: Monogreen Synergy

Incidentally it will change a lot after FNM, once I test it in my meta-game properly.

Maybe throw in Wild Defiance for your targeting of Champion of Lambholt or Wild Beastmaster (depending on what's out). Just a slight buff, and has iiinnnnnsssssaaaannneeeeee synergy with Blessings of Nature (a potential 16 on the board for 1 mana cost? Sounds lethal to me.

Anywho, this is a cool looking deck :D +1!

What about Deadbridge Goliath ?

October 31, 2012 10:13 p.m.

my_gizmo says... #13

@McClair_Bear: I do like the idea of having Wild Defiance but i'm not sure what I would take out for it. Plus, I would have to play it on turn 3 which is when I have to play my Champion or Beastmaster and I usually play one right after the other. So, I'm not sure how well it would work.

@brballer42: I like the 5/5 for 4 mana but he doesn't really impact the board when he comes into play (like Wolfir Silverheart giving +4/+4).

He would potentially give 5 +1/+1 counters

Here's a faster mono-green deck I made called: Beatstick.

Predator Ooze or no go.

If you're having trouble with spot removal try card:Ranger's Guile.

Question. Where is Thragtusk ?

November 8, 2012 12:12 p.m.

my_gizmo says... #18

I don't have any Thragtusk s, if I did i'd have a few in here.

November 8, 2012 5:14 p.m.

Alvn_isnt_Low says... #19

To be honest, In a deck like this I feel Thragtusk makes a better sideboard card than mainboard... He doesn't add to the combo besides another body for Wild Beastmaster to buff. Sure the 5 life when he enters is nice but in this case Wolfir Silverheart is the better 5-drop and a better game changer.

November 8, 2012 6:11 p.m.

my_gizmo says... #20

Wolfir Silverheart is definitely the better 5-drop. He basically ends the game when he comes into play.

November 8, 2012 10:57 p.m.

Alvn_isnt_Low says... #21

Exactly, and therefore Thragtusk is at most a sideboard card... but then again Sheltering Word has more potential for life gain and costs 3 less mana.

I've got a very similar deck on my page if you'd like to check it out. I hoping to take it to FNM tomorrow night!! Alvn's Ag-Growth (Mono-Green)

November 8, 2012 11:36 p.m.

my_gizmo says... #22

Yeah, a lot of times i'll get my Wild Beastmaster pumped and then my opponent will Selesnya Charm it or something but if I respond with Sheltering Word then i'll gain 4 or more life. But then again, card:Ranger's Guile only costs one mana..

Really cool deck. About Hamlet Captain and Elvish Visionary : Which one to run will come down to playtesting. If the card you draw off of the visionary is consistently better than getting a little boost each swing, then keep it. I love the captain, but he's very slow, as all creatures are in that it takes a turn for them to actually do anything.

I'd imagine that the visionary would smooth things out. I've also had times where the captain pushed the final points of damage.

Wow.. I actually made this deck on MTGO before I saw this online, I guess great minds think alike ;).

The only difference in my deck is, I don't have Garruk, Primal Hunter (too expensive :( ) I have card:Akroma's Memorial instead. Because a strong red/black deck, will tear this deck apart.

In place of the Strangleroot Geist I have Mayor of Avabruck  Flip which I highly recommend adding.

November 10, 2012 8:05 a.m.

my_gizmo says... #25

card:Akroma's Memorial is a liitle to expensive on the mana cost...

By turn 7 the game should be over but i'll give it some thought. I might add a few card:Ranger's Guile to prevent spot removal, which is what is hurting me the most since almost everyone is running Dreadbore or some sort of red burn in my meta.

I've also thought of Mayor of Avabruck  Flip but if he flips he won't affect my Wild Beastmaster or Champion of Lambholt . But getting a 2/2 wolf every turn sounds nice. I'll definitely playtest him in the deck, though!
