Description

This is my first posted deck, I'm pretty excited about it! So far it hasn't lost in a duel, yet to fully playtest it in multiplayer. Please comment with any suggestions!

I am open to better cards, or even a different archetype that would work better.

Current cards I'm considering replacing,- Loxodon Warhammer

  • Tempt with Glory

  • Savage Beating ? (the jury is still out on this one)

  • Berserker's Onslaught

  • Prophetic Flamespeaker

Looks like a ton of fun! My only thought is why include so many fetch lands that have colors not in your deck? They aren't illegal but just seems like a basic in their place would be just as good.

As best I can gather, you seem to be heavily focusing on the +1/+1 counters part of your commander, which is interesting.

Considering you want to beef up your creatures, it may be an idea to sideboard or mainboard a boardwipe or two, and since you're going to have huge creatures, I think Blasphemous Act would be a good one for you. Especially useful for dealing with your opponents casting annoying little deathtouch 1/1's.

Warstorm Surge also combos very well with token generation, especially if said tokens ETB with +1/+1 counters already on them.

Also since you have quite a few cards that focus on ETB triggers I really have to suggest Strionic Resonator and Panharmonicon which will wombo combo insanely well together and with cards like Warstorm Surge and Cathar's Crusade, not to mention Purphoros. Together with those 5 cards, it really would only take you generating 5 1/1 tokens in your upkeep to kill someone from full health. And if you put more focus on token generation, I would suggest the brand new Amonkhet card that was spoiled recently called Anointed Procession and it's older green version Parallel Lives. Assemble the Legion may also be of use to you since you already have proliferate engines in your deck, and along with Doubling Season and the other two token buffers I just mentioned, you will have a great deal of tokens.

For lifegain, you could also consider True Conviction and perhaps some graveyard recycle for late game Archangel's Light. For a creature as well for lifegain, Patron of the Kitsune would work well, and you'll get multiple triggers per attack off your Archangel of Thune

Keep in mind, most of these suggestions will change the nature of the deck and how it plays rather than improve what's there. So take these suggestions with a grain of salt before thinking about buying these cards.

Oh and as MoGoose831 mentioned, it may be an idea to change up your lands a bit. I'd suggest some Temple Scry Lands like Temple of Triumph, Temple of Abandon and Temple of Plenty and some double mana bounce lands like Boros Garrison, Gruul Turf and Selesnya Sanctuary. Especially if you bounce the temples with the bounce lands, you get multiple scry from one land.

This will also help reduce the significant cost of your deck a little bit.

SaltySpecula: and MoGoose831: Thanks for both of your inputs! I don't really purchase cards so budget is definitely not an issue. I mostly play it through Xmage. As for the fetch lands, I mostly play it for the speed and ability to fetch the duals. However, I am considering changing some of them to different non-basics. One I need to add is Gaea's Cradle, and potentially one or both Strip Mine and Wasteland because Pendrell gets on my nerves. I also never really like playing basics unless I need to when I'm playing on Xmage or proxy decks with my group of friends.

As for my choice in commander, I like using Marath for his utility in this deck, rather than playing combo like he usually is. I like the unpredictability of the deck, as I rarely play the same game with it (no creature tutors!).

SaltySpecula: I love your suggestions! I think Strionic Resonator and Panharmonicon are really good! Especially the latter. As for Amonkhet, I am very excited to add a couple of those cards to this deck, especially today's Samut, Voice of Dissent. Others I'm excited about is the one you mentioned, Champion of Rhonas and Combat Celebrant.

As for the Blasphemous Act, I think something to the effect of Anger of the Gods or Slagstorm would be a better fit so that my creatures can survive.

I think Warstorm Surge is way overpriced, and would be lower in the priority to cast list versus something like Gisela, Blade of Goldnight.

Regarding lifegain stuff, I like the flavor of it, but I don't have enough cards for Patron and Archangel's Light to be relevant. Though I am looking for some good graveard recursion, I think Sword of Light and Shadow would do the trick. Especially for Gyre Sage or Mikaeus, the Lunarch. Those get targeted so fast.
