When Eldritch Moon spoilers started releasing and the cards with meld were spoiled, I was ecstatic. Transform is my favorite mechanic in Magic, and I thought meld was an amazing twist. I was especially excited that one meld pair was angels (Bruna, the Fading Light + Gisela, the Broken Blade ), since angels are my favorite creature type in the game. I decided to build an EDH deck that combined both of these things. I considered mono-white until I thought about another meld pair: Hanweir Battlements + Hanweir Garrison . I knew I'd love to play them too, but what do I play as my commander? I was browsing through my collection when I found an Archangel Avacyn tucked away in a binder. Bingo. This deck focuses on big, awesome angels, but they tend to have relatively high mana costs, and Avacyn needed some non-Angels to transform. My answer was to include some Humans to play early-game (and also take advantage of some of the Angel+Human syngergies).
