This is not strictly combo, or strictly competitive. This is Vorthos Animar.

The deck is themed around ancient magics and shamans; nature itself rising up against intruders to the plane. Shamans and druids and elementals and beasts - the sentient soul of the world channeling those connected to the plane to return to nature. Every creature in the deck (except a few that I had to include for sheer power) has this theme in mind. Thankfully, MtG artists also seem to have this in mind when designing cards that go well in this deck.

My brew is 80% of the top cEDH versions and is slowly converting, but with remnants of the old Primal Surge battlecruiser build it once was. Cards like Maelstrom Wanderer, Craterhoof Behemoth, and even Champion of Lambholt will probably always be a part of this deck so it can convert to combat wins more readily (I also keep a copy of Fierce Empath as a means of searching up Bane of Progress, but it also gets me these game-enders if the game allows for them).

Cards commonly found in top-tier Animar cEDH decks not currently in mine: - Force of Will - Gaea's Cradle - OG Duals - Carpet of Flowers - Flusterstorm - Gitaxian Probe - Mana Crypt - Mox Diamond - Mystic Remora - Pact of Negation - Survival of the Fittest - Sylvan Tutor - Arbor Elf - Elvish Spirit Guide - Kiri-Onna - Loyal Drake - Phyrexian Metamorph - Priest of Titania - Siren Stormtamer - Wall of Roots - Tishana, Voice of Thunder - Ancient Animus - Eldritch Evolution

We definitely got some new toys.

While both Fierce Guardianship and Deflecting Swat are excellent, FG is certainly the better card. Animar is less cEDH viable because our deck and gameplan is SO reliant on our commander being in play.

IN: Fierce Guardianship, Gemrazer, Delay, Wild Growth, Mystical Tutor, Glimpse of Nature, Brainstorm

OUT: Burgeoning, Opal Palace, Mountain, Sakura-Tribe Elder, Generous Patron, Cyclonic Rift, Venser Shaper Savant

Notes: Burgeoning was a difficult cut for me, but discord and discussion has finally convinced me. When it works, it works beautifully. But when it doesn't, it's a completely dead card. Exploration is better and still probably not quite right for Animar Cyclonic Rift was another difficult cut. Many better Animar players are on Winds of Rebuke, but I think Cyclonic Rift is better due to the massive upside. ***Venser is one of the last 7 or 8 remnants of the first Animar build I created years ago, trying to find every effect I want but on a creature. Truthfully, a general counterspell is just better. Even a Mystical Tutor is better.
+++Gemrazer is a GG creature that gives Animar a +1/+1 counter, reach, trample, and a way around Torpor Orb and other such effects. Perfect.
+++As I cut creatures for better noncreatures, these cheap costing spells are just fantastic
