The biggest thing I think the deck needs is more attackers. It stalls really, really well, but I'd like to be on the offensive more.

Either that or a way to have Wall of Shards out for defense, but not always healing the opponent until I am ready. Vampire Hexmage is the only thing I can think of, but it is kind of wonky.

I went more burn oriented with my version (Listerine) but I doubt it's any more consistent than your list. Fun gimmick deck to play, though.

kamarupa: I like your deck! And honestly I think a mix of both of ours is exactly what I am looking for. I especially like the Rest for the Weary, and I think the Mortal's Ardor is something I can work with in the meta I would be playing it in.

Thanks for commenting!

Not the direction you are currently headed but consider Fiery Justice and Aria of Flame .

OLucas: Aria is actually the card that got me back into brewing this deck again! I desperately wanted to get it to work, but I was never able to come up with a shell that I liked. I think a lot of the problem stems from me having such a heavy B/W core.

I'm still convinced there is something solid there, especially having access to Grove of the Burnwillows (which is hilarious), Heroes' Reunion , Knight of Autumn , and so many others.

While searching for cards I also found Rain of Gore as another reason to run red and Needlebite Trap as just a great card (no idea what to swap for it though).

I'm sure you're already aware and it just didn't make the cut but Triskaidekaphobia plus Tree of Perdition is a very funny wincon.

OLucas: I think Rain of Gore could work in a build that runs Exquisite Blood probably? The symmetry is harder to break, but it is definitely doable, and I don't really find myself targetting myself with heals all that much anyway.

Needlebite Trap unfortunately doesn't work, which sucks because if it worked the way we wanted it would be one of the best spells in the deck. I saw it the other day and nearly gasped, and was so excited and went to tell a brewer friend about it, and he reminded me that Remedy broke it... since Tainted Remedy is a replacement effect, they never actually get healed, so there is nothing to trigger the trap. This does however work in builds that focus on lifeloss instead of Tainted Remedy itself, and could be triggered with something as minor as Grove of the Burnwillows .

I only took out Triskaidekaphobia just yesterday in favor of Phenax. It is a very fun wincon, but I think it really needs a playset of Trees, which kind of makes some form of ramp necessary too. In a build with Red that definitely opens up using Simian Spirit Guide , or if Gruul is the base colors then you can do Boreal Druid or Ponza style ramp to get there (something I definitely toyed with).

What's your input on Oust vs Condemn ? Love the deck!

bankrupt_on_selling: Thank you!

When I first started building this deck 2 years ago I used Condemn , but then I noticed that the attack clause meant that I couldn't use it on utility or combo creatures, which is the vast majority of what I want to remove. With Oust being a sorcery it isn't optimal (if only Swords to Plowshares was legal..), but it is more flexible, and I get a little bit of tempo advantage out of it with the sort of topdeck manipulation.

Oust is only poor when it comes to ETB creatures.

Reduced the number of Wall of Denial and Drift of Phantasms to open up space for 4x Thoughtseize . Otherwise I am really happy with how the deck is performing. Just need a ton more playtesting to see what else needs tweaking!

Surprised you're 1x Hall of Heliod's Generosity is only Maybeboarded here given how pivotal Tainted Remedy is to the deck. It's been great in my decks that revolve around a single enchantment.

Oh, no you're right I was only half paying attention and thought High Alert was an equipment for some reason. wtf! well anyway now that I see it applies to ALL walls and not one its equipped too, that's fucking amazing. If only Enlightened Tutor were legal.

LOL. I've definitely made my share of mental errors. Drift of Phantasms is here, and while not 1CMC, it does get the job done when it's really needed. And of course there are other options like Mastermind's Acquisition . I think Liquidbeaver's approach here tries to take advantage of Tainted Remedy as much as possible without actually needing it, which is a pretty solid strategy when building around any single spell.

Made some changes to fit a discard packages as well as the new Heliod, Sun-Crowned. Even without Ballista Heliod is a strong one of that is tutorable with Zur. The discard package should help protect my combos from removal, as well as slow the game down enough that I can actually get to those combos.

Going back and forth between a 1x of Fae of Wishes or Drift of Phantasms for the tutor ability.

Hopefully testing this again on Tuesday at a more competitive version of our FNM's.
