Hey everybody, this is the Golgari installment for my dual color deck series. My inspiration for this deck was when Aether Revolt was spoiled and I got a look at the card Winding Constrictor (which has been dubbed as a Hardened Scales on legs or on a stick, whichever one you prefer), and since it's so good in standard I thought it would be great in a modern deck focused on +1/+1 counters. It actually ends up being quite similar to the BG Midrange or Rock decks that are pretty common in moder, but there is also a lot of synergy between your +1/+1 cards.

The Cooks:

The Fatties:

  • Tireless Tracker: This card generates enough value on it's own to be worth an inclusion and it gets to be pretty crazy with one of your counter buffing engines on the field.
  • Scavenging Ooze: There are a lot of graveyard strategies in modern, and the Ooze is one of the perfect main-deck answers because of how much utility it offers.
  • Grim Flayer: There is no direct +1/+1 counter synergy with this card in particular, but it comes with trample which is incredibly valuable because you have many other methods of putting +1/+1 counters on it from cards like Nissa. Also the ability to filter through the top cards of your deck is so incredibly powerful.
  • Walking Ballista: This card starts off with counters base, so there is some automatic synergy there, but also you can stack it up to some absurd numbers and then just nuke your opponent with it's ability.

Words of Wisdom:

Now just like with any other creature based deck, control will destroy you 9 out of 10 times. You do have some methods of interacting with your stuff in the grave and some instant defense in the board which will make it less difficult, but it is never easy to fight against someone who just counters anything the moment it's played no matter what you do. However, against everybody else you should be fine, and if you board properly then you will be a force to be reckoned with. Also, if you have the money and want to make the deck semi-competetive then you could throw in a few Doubling Season, and if you feel inclined then please gimme one of those +1 votes.

The Next Deck in The Series:

Boros Aggro

Updates Add

So I decided to cut the Lotleth Troll as it was under performing in all of my tests. I went ahead and decided to swap in some Tireless Tracker for it because the deck had too many 2-drops, and the value that it generates is nuts. Also I went down some Llanowar Reborn in favor of a few Ghost Quarter for decks with greedy mana bases or tron.
