Hapatra, Vizier of Poison is my 5th Golgari Commander deck and WOW she loves combos. Like Skullbriar, she loves proliferate. She also allows the abuse of Infect, Whither, Persist BUT she will only give you ONE snake per instance of one or more -1/-1 counters going on A creature. So Black Sun's Zenith for x=5 when there are only 3 creatures in play will ONLY give you 3 death-touching snakes. This is why we include Flourishing Defenses and Nest of Scarabs as they'll count ALL the -1/-1 counters.

Building the deck, the combos accidentally went in. Blowfly Infestation is a key card to spread the -1/-1 counters. But, putting one on a creature you control (like a 1/1 death-touching snake) forces the snake to die, causing the token and life generators to trigger. The power of the Carnival of Souls and Helix Pinnacle with a life gain engine is very tempting, however I'm struggling to see a suitable drop.

Just like Glissa, Gitrog and Meren, Hapatra does like interacting with the graveyard, through to a lesser extent.

The deck is in the early stages of development. Already, I've found that Devoted Druid in the graveyard along with others like Channeler Initiate + Grim Poppet + Wickerbough Elder + Quillspike turns Necrotic Ooze into a monster. A more competitive version of this deck is most certainly going to utilize dredge effects and Buried Alive + Entomb , which is stupidly lacking from this version.

Again, looking into developing this deck more competitively with Entomb + Life from the Loam will allow you to start cycling lands constantly, triggering cards (not in the deck) like Archfiend of Ifnir + Ruthless Sniper . With a solid cycling build, with dredge to boot, I can see this becoming an extremely fast deck.

Finally, Snakes. Hapatra, Vizier of Poison's other effect means that connecting with your opponent is good for business. So the inclusion of the voltron(ish) items is automatic, as is Sword of Feast and Famine (upon finding a spare). Including these connection enablers and snakes mean Shisato, Whispering Hunter finds a perfect home in this deck. Seshiro the Anointed + Sosuke's Summons also help the snake sub-theme.

Again, looking into the more competitive ideas, the shift of the deck can easily be changed to focus on Shisato, Whispering Hunter 's effect, by including cards like Mana Web + Manglehorn + Root Maze + Nature's Will + Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger. Black has some very nice effects to help this, however while the interaction of Leyline of Lifeforce + Nether Void + Prowling Serpopard is potentially hilarious, I don't have any Voids and the price tag is a tiny bit too much.

Mikaeus, the Unhallowed works brilliantly here as very few creatures will actually have +1/+1 counters on them and any that do, upon entering the battlefield, will happily negate the +1/+1 counter placed by the undying. With a sac outlet, this creates infinite loops of death. Similarly how Core Prowler + Llanowar Reborn will oddly interact.

Please suggest any comments or ask questions, this is still in progress and I'd happily shed light on my other decisions.
