This deck took about 20 years to crystalize... just waiting for the right cards to be printed. I feel like the mana could be fixed for better balance between the dominant G and splash U. Any recommendations would be kindly appreciated.
Green finally forgives Blue (for not being Green)!
Way back, when
Gaea's Cradle
&
Priest of Titania
were young, I fell in love with making vast amounts of mana! However, I learned quickly that large amounts of mana alone do not win you the game... and so began my quest to also draw large amounts of cards to use said mana!
Long before the easy-peasy
Staff of Domination
, I deviced an ingenius and far more noble infinite combo in Elvish Fury + Malachite Talisman
. At the time (before the printing of Collective Concious), Green options for mega draw were rather limited. (
Braingeyser
was banned, and the then new
Stroke of Genius
not only costed one more mana but unacceptably depicted that Overrated Low-Life Who Destroyed Argoth Forest.)
But, oh, how I lusted after another buyback spell from Tempest:
Whispers of the Muse
.
Indeed, I wanted to go crazy with Lapis Lazuli Talisman + Whispers of the Muse
, precision draw my whole deck, and then recycle infinite
Desert Twister
's with 2x recurring
Gaea's Blessing
! Absolute power!!!
Nevertheless, in order to splash Blue back then, I required something like
Birds of Paradise
, and even
Tropical Island
... and the chances of me hitting both Talisman combos, while mana fixing, while dropping enough elves to feed
Priest of Titania
made my dream of absolute yet elegant power nigh unobtainable. (What's worse, I felt with the addition of the second blue talisman combo, and other supporting pieces, the deck was drifting too far from the purity of mono-green elves - an insult to Gaea.)
Fast forward to the monumental printings of
Green Sun's Zenith
and, most critically,
Distant Melody
... and I finally realized the dream was ready to become reality.
Note the glorious synergy and elegant balance between the
Malachite Talisman
&
Lapis Lazuli Talisman
,
Shamanic Revelation
&
Distant Melody
, and
Green Sun's Zenith
&
Blue Sun's Zenith
. Finally, it occured to me that
Capsize
(another buyback spell) is superior to
Beast Within
(the new-age replacement of
Desert Twister
), because not only is it another option to complete the
Lapis Lazuli Talisman
combo... but it can also bounce my Green spells to feed the
Malachite Talisman
combo!
After some consideration of a sideboard, I decided to leave it alone. Not too shabby as is! If I did add a sideboard, I would be very tempted to maindeck
Living Wish
&
Cunning Wish
!
Enjoy Green's graceful forgiveness of Blue.
Distant Melody
, you're alright!
As always, keep the faith and take courage: Mishra is coming back.
