640 DAMAGE IN ONE TURN...... and trample

Standard* Budget Combo Energy G/U (Simic)




This deck is a ramp deck but not like the ones you know and love! This ramps energy. Thanks to the professor at tolarian cc i tweeked his build a bit by adding blue for protection and more energy!

The goal is to larger than life a pummeler and then Exponentially increase its power. I can easily get him to an 80/80 trample.

So i can search for my pummelers and larger than lifes. with Glint-Nest Crane, Anticipate, and Eldritch Evolution. And scry power with Aether Theorist and Glassblower's Puzzleknot.

The highest i have been able to reach is 640 damage in one turn!!!!!

I feel as though it is too late to the game. Like the idea is to get it off on the first go. Panharmonicon is good. I may consider it with more testing.

I have a question about Electrostatic Pummeler; can you activate his ability at instant speed and more than one time, if you have the energy for it of course?

Yes. The only limit is how much energy you have to pump it.

Looks good, the only card I was going to suggest was Blossoming Defense but someone beat me to it. Besides that I don't see much else that I think needs to be changed right now, +1.

He only gets the bonus until end of turn... I could chump block him with a 1/1 and your entire 640 dmg is negated, leaving you with zero energy.

Have you though about Built to Smash to rectify this? Larger Than Life is okay, but it's sorcery speed, so it kind of gives away your move.

I know right! I'm proxying my hubs right now. The pummeler is your main method of surprise damage because with a single Built to Smash in your hand and enough energy you get a trampler and a ton of damage. The Larger Than Life I would switch with Blossoming Defense since it gives a less buff but hexproof to prevent your opponent from focusing the crap out of it since they know what a R/G aggro energy deck can do with it. Also, it is 1 drop instead of 2. Instant speed is what the pummeler is all about and protection like this will also help with keeping your opponent's mana locked away from tricks.

Whoops sorry I just noticed the defenses in your board. Maybe consider dropping 2 Larger Than Life for 1 Dynavolt Tower or 2, and if you have space, 1 or 2 Fabrication Module. These are just my thoughts, hope they help! And please give me some tips on my deck.

Instead of splashing red for Built to Smash you could always use some Haunted Cloaks. They're equipment, so they don't go away if they negate your damage or destroy your creature, and it provides not just trample, but vigilance as well.

I got my pummeler to 3584 using two built to smash and activating its ability 9 times. One card you might want to consider is Rings of Brighthearth.

Well. Tbh im still doing a lot of testing. I like it. Its got more coverage and protection. But rg can also be alot more aggro. So. You can go either way or go 3 color.

Use Panharmonicon. I use the Pummeler in a GR deck, and I've been able to hit 72 in turn 5.

If you want a turn 4 win with trample, I'd suggest sideboarding in red to switch with blue between games for stuff like Built to Smash for the high intensity damage.

Needs panharmonicon but very good overall. I've pulled 6 electrostatic pummelers and have been looking for something to do with them. Maybe it could be temur also for more pump spells

The focus of the deck is to combo on turn 4 or 5 at the latest with pummeler as the main win con. So i put the best energy producers in to ensure that pummeler can grow huge

Running against Boros vehicles is going to tough though. Stuff like Fumigate and Authority of the Consuls and Skysovereign, Consul Flagship will disrupt your deck.

Thats where the side board comes in and it turns to a control deck. Its okay game 2 and 3 if i win on turn 6 or 7 if i can counter their disruption and destruction.

The_Grape is correct... I faced a similar deck yesterday, and won every game I played against it with simple removal. Unless you're getting Blossoming Defense off, I'm able to remove him with stuff like Murder, but I won yesterday with Blessed Alliance in one deck and a simple Commencement of Festivities in another.

Once you've blown your energy wad once, most of the decks are too fast to make up for it. Even with your control, I find that it, at the very least, slows down the deck. Which is nearly as effective.

Still a great deck, but you'll need to be extra cautious against any sort of counter defense or removal. One misplay and you lose your combo completely.

I'm not sure if it has been mentioned already but I have a similar deck and found Dispel to be more useful as a part of defending Electrostatic Pummeler than Blossoming Defense as it can stop cards like Repel the Abominable and Commencement of Festivities that don't target it. Counter magic in the main makes for an easy combo and easy life. Blossoming Defense is great because it not only adds hex proof but provides a power boost at instant speed so less cards are needed before your lethal attack, but I have not found it difficult to get both Larger Than Life and Dispel into my hand at the same time.

3 color feels too slow for this current standard when you're running a combo deck based around such a cheap creature, so at least for me the argument is limited between the gruul and simic variants. The gruul is a better deck generally speaking and is capable of winning without the combo, but the simic deck is much better at protecting said combo and has more deck filtering to make the combo more reliable. If you want to try a gruul variant then you should make a separate deck because the two variants are fundamentally different. BTW, love the deck, I just recently made a simic energy deck and ruled out pummeler because I wasn't running red. Thanks for showing me I was wrong.

First strike and deathtouch is going to wreck you, might think about 3 Rogue's Passage in the sideboard. Otherwise, nice deck. Not something I usually see.

Key to The City. Gets your creatures in unblocked and adds some card draw. Better if you have madness cards of course but probably helpful even without madness to get your damage in and draw cards to get to combo pieces. I would run two of in place of Decoction Module main deck.

A REALLY frustrating thing I've encountered is Skeleton Key on the ESP...

He's a 1/1 during the declare blockers step, and can only be blocked by things with 1 power... then BAM... it's horrible.

Though, in reflection, this won't work with Larger Than Life, but is brutal with the Built to Smash option.

At least from this build it is impossible to deal any damage on turn 1 since you have nothing yo give anything haste... maybe change the clickbait tile. Just a suggestion.

Why don't you have Empyreal Voyager or Glimmer of Genius for scry power if you want its much better than Glassblower's Puzzleknot also red gives you Aethertorch Renegade which gets a lot of energy for its cost. Temur seems to work best for energy in my opinion

I didn't see it mentioned above but the new green pump spell in Ixalan gives your creature trample at instant speed. You might want to keep this in mind.Crash the Ramparts
