Gruul Undying Bloodrush

Standard*

captainhigh Score: 2

Description

This deck was originally a gruul wolf-themed deck that incorporated the bloodrush mechanic from Gatecrash with nothing but creatures, Signal the Clans and Domri Rade but now has evolved into an undying mid range deck as undying is less susceptible to control decks and Supreme Verdict . I have tested it extensively on cockatrice and I have been having good success with winning in the mid game.

Updates

— Feb. 7, 2013

Decided to remove the burn spells and added Thragtusk to combat fast aggro decks. More creatures and less spells also improves synergy with Domri Rade and Signal the Clans as Domri Rade 's -2 is a removal spell

— Jan. 28, 2013

Moved Pyreheart Wolf to the sideboard and decreased creature count in favor of Pillar of Flame and Searing Spear in the maindeck.

— Jan. 25, 2013

Added 3 Searing Spear to the mainboard and created a sideboard.

— Jan. 25, 2013

Added Hound of Griselbrand as an undying double strike creature along with Rancor to the mainboard.

While your idea is sound, Control decks are going to shut you down. While they can't counter the Bloodrush stuff, your lack of versatility means your deck will be easy to read and deal with. You're putting all your eggs in one basket.

Besides combat damage, you should consider running some burn spells, Bonfire, Skullcrack, Searing Spear, Brimstone Volley, etc.

Is there anything like Lead the Stampede for standard now? The strength of bloodrush over spells like Giant Growth is that you can fetch them as creature cards.

@DePuluche Thanks for the suggestion, but card:Tracker's Instincts isn't what I'm looking for. I will continue to run Signal the Clans instead.

Built something similar, but run Mayor of Avabruck  Flip and Huntmaster of the Fells  Flip . Bloodrush gets transform ability off without losing tempo. Also, consider Flinthoof Boar . Not a wolf...but very good.

@magicgeek Thanks for the suggestion, I was considering those cards but Huntmaster of the Fells  Flip is so just expensive. However, if you've seen my deck list recently you'd realize that this is no longer a wolf deck. I'm now playing more of an undying theme.

What about Rubblebelt Raiders ?

@Death by Dragons. As this deck is mid-range and not aggro, I don't think that would be a useful addition

i dunno Rubblebelt Raiders is still good because as it attacks those are counters being placed on it. with that in mind it can grow to be a power house very quickly and triggering bloodrush on it only makes that much more powerfull

Rubblebelt Raiders is even better at midrange. I would not play it in a quick aggro deck. I have a version of this and it won 2nd at a tournament Saturday. It would have won completely had I not got mana flooded in the finals to lose the match 2-1 to a control deck. I almost still won it. My first match in the finals, I beat the control deck in 5 turns. (I did not go first) It did really well aganist control, and several aggro decks. I beat them all, including the naya human deck.

Here is my version of the deck:

Creatures

2x Skarrg Guildmage 2x Immerwolf 4x Strangleroot Geist 4x Slaughterhorn 2x Wasteland Viper (considering two more)4x Young Wolf 2x Flinthoof Boar (considering two more)2x Mayor of Avabruck  Flip 4x Ghor-Clan Rampager 4x Rubblebelt Maaka 4x Burning-Tree Emissary

Considering adding 2x Pyreheart Wolf

Spells

4x Rancor 2x Searing Spear 2x Domri Rade

Considering adding 2x Faithless Looting

Lands (21)

4x Stomping Ground 4x Rootbound Crag 2x Kessig Wolf Run 9x Forest 2x Mountain

Considering adding 1 Ghost Quarter

Sideboard

1x Elixir of Immortality 2x Zhur-Taa Druid 2x Wild Defiance 2x Searing Spear 2x Hellrider (Considering Removing in favor of Reverberate )2x Ranger's Guile 2x Ruric Thar, the Unbowed (A MUST HAVE!)2x Witchbane Orb (Another MUST HAVE!)

These include dragon's maze cards. I hope you guys enjoy this version as much as I did!
