i think if u want to cut things you could remove the pillar of flames and the lavamancers if u wanted, the deck doesn't exactly need them imo.

also reckless bushwhacker is amazing in this kind of deck.

rainbowofdeath ~ pillar is absolutely a flex-slot, but lavamancer is something that i've tested, and trust me, he can be a force to be reckoned with against other aggro decks, and he's even a decent way to follow up that turn 4 boardwipe against control.

didn't even know about bushwhacker. I like the synergy with Burning-Tree Emissary, but aside from that, im sure i can justify 3 for 2. I'll test it though, maybe my bolts and rancors are are enough to trigger it consistently.

You could also have a playset of Evolving Wilds instead of some Terramorphic Expanse since the wilds are $0.04 cheaper.

Grim Lavamancer is excellent against a lot of strategies including delver, affinity, and anything running Tarmogoyfs

Tyrannosary ~ yea, i guess i can just do 4 wilds 2 terramorphics. the reason i want fetches instead of duals is because it helps feed Grim Lavamancer

Reckless Bushwhacker is a HOUSE for this deck. I've been playing a non budget version of this deck and he's the best card in the deck against non-aggro decks. My favorite flood protection card in a deck like this is a singleton Devastating Summons as well. Both are cheap and super explosive cards you could fit into this type of deck.

Long time Gruul player here (since 2004) and I stand by the Grim Lavamancers. They are both board control versus aggro and reach versus control.

I really liked this series. My only suggestion is that a cheap (extra $10 maybe) sideboard would be great. I know SB depends on meta, but the suggestions could be made for an open field.

did A LOT of testing between cards to try and fit bushwacker. him over Flinthoof Boar is an immense improvement in most scenarios. just an excellent way to finish a game

What about Game Trail instead of Evolving Wilds and Terramorphic Expanse? Both are to slow!

When SOI comes out obviously.

-FugitaZ- the point of this deck is to be budget, so to replace 10 cent lands with lands that are $5 is kinda against the point.

There's that, but I'm also not sure I'm comfortable suggesting lands that I have never tested in modern.

The purpose of this series is to introduce newer players to modern archetypes. So I would never give a suggestion for a card I personally would not play. And I'm just not sold on that cycle for modern yet.
